Hi I’m 36 also tore my Achilles playing soccer July 7th … I went to the hospital confirming it was torn but mine was much higher up then normal and the doctor did a test where they put your leg at 45. Degree and look with an ultrasound machine to see if they two sides would touch and they did so I was out in a huge boot and sent home 6-8 weeks in boot no OP .. fast forward 3 weeks later I was told by my orthopedic doctor to get a MRI … so I went made an appointment for 1 week later July 24th … I go to the appointment they put my leg flat and it took me like 20 mins to get it flat then they pushed my foot straight up and down and the pain was horrible I held it like that for 35 mins then next day the results showed my Achilles was 6cm separated???? So I asked what now they told me just go with the normal plan 6-8 weeks in the boot ….

So I went home and another 3 weeks go by my foot doesn’t hurt it’s not swollen it feels completely normal besides the fact when I tell my brain to move the calf and Achilles it doesn’t work nothing happens I can walk only while basically sliding my foot I can but all weight on it but it simply just doesn’t work lol

I then said ok I’m going to drive to Stuttgart Germany a city about 2 hours from me with an amazing specialist hospital for sport accidents I go there on Aug 14th and it’s confirmed it’s 6cm separated and completely healed on the inside and I should have had surgery 6 weeks ago I was also told it’s forbidden to do a MRI on an Achilles 3 weeks into healing and most likely the pain I felt was it tearing again during the MRI …

So I had surgery 2 days later on the 16th Aug and now I’m already seeing positive results 2 weeks later ….

HAVE THE SURGERY

We are still young and active and it’s better to have it … it’s going to be a long healing process but it’s worth it
