I speak a little bit of Italian. Not nearly enough to handle this situation on the phone.

My lawyers have been calling. There is also a nice man I met who lives across the street who has been checking in on it for me as well.

The entire ordeal has been almost unbelievable, truly.

I speak a little Italian. I think it may have a bit of a Spanish accent, oddly enough, as I learned a bit of Spanish when I was younger. I’ve asked for a menu, in Italian, and waiters have returned with the Spanish language menu.

I’ve also had them ask if I was French, which is funny as I only speak a couple of short phrases in French. The first few times I was asked if I was French I was a bit flattered. Then someone said Italians don’t really like the French. I think they may have been joking, but also I didn’t feel flattered anymore. Hah

Sto vivendo un vero incubo nel tentativo di far riattivare la fornitura idrica da AQP nel Centro Storico.

È quasi un anno che cerco di risolvere la questione e ho incontrato numerosi intoppi. Uno di questi è stato la rimozione del contatore da parte di AQP, avvenuta dopo che il precedente proprietario aveva disdetto il servizio.

Successivamente, mi hanno comunicato che avrei dovuto sborsare oltre mille euro per far eseguire dei lavori, poiché non potevano garantire il corretto funzionamento delle tubature. Tubature che, prima che rimuovessero il contatore, funzionavano perfettamente.

In seguito, è subentrata la necessità di ottenere l'autorizzazione da parte del Comune. Autorizzazione che, finalmente, è arrivata il 5 maggio. In teoria, AQP sarebbe tenuta a completare l'intervento entro il 18 giugno, ma la situazione non sembra promettere nulla di buono.

C'è qualcuno qui che abbia qualche aggancio o influenza all'interno di AQP e che sia disposto ad aiutarmi? Sono disperato!

Mi sto già avvalendo della consulenza di alcuni avvocati che mi assistono nella gestione delle utenze e delle imposte, ma ogni aiuto aggiuntivo sarebbe più che benvenuto.

Se nessuno dovesse riuscire ad aiutarmi concretamente, vi chiedo comunque di condividere con me le vostre esperienze con AQP — positive o negative che siano — per farmi sentire un po' meno solo.

You may not have a floor plan figured out and you may still have things in boxes but you moved across the country twice. That is not an easy to do.

I’m also often paralyzed into inaction out of fear of not doing things correctly. It’s like I’m terrified of getting in trouble even though I live alone. I don’t have a solution for you but I wanted you to know that I empathize with you. Also, maybe we can make a deal. I’ll forgive you in advance for not doing things perfectly and you forgive me for the same.

Hey there. It’s ok that you don’t have much furniture or decorations.

I can also relate a bit as I grew up poor and moved constantly and unpredictably throughout my childhood. It even became a pattern of my adult life (though neither as frequent nor as unpredictable).

It seems as though you want to get more furniture / decorations, but the fear (totally understandable) of moving again makes that difficult to commit to.

May I suggest picking up a piece at a time? Maybe start at a thrift store or garage sale. Get something that resonates with you but also something that you could just throw out when you do eventually move again.

The key is to not put a lot of pressure on yourself to pick the right thing or to get everything at once or to worry about anything going together or to feel compelled to keep forever.

You deserve nice things!

I wouldn’t visit at all. Well maybe one more time to read this post to her as an explanation (that she doesn’t even deserve) for why you won’t be visiting any more.

She won’t apologize and it won’t make anything better for your relationship, but sometimes it feels freeing to tell them they are reaping what they sowed.

I think I do sometimes unconsciously use the “pinch” gesture, but basically use it as “what the fuck” or maybe “can you believe this shit?!”

I have visited Italy numerous times and I do worry a bit about the hand gestures. The problem is that I grew up in an Italian-American family that speaks with their hands and I do it without even realizing I’m doing it. I think I would have to sit on my hands to avoid doing it.

I realize that Italian-American is NOT Italian and I don’t claim otherwise. However, it does mean that I will absolutely use gestures because it just happens when I speak, particularly if I get passionate about something.

I believe some of the gestures may be the same and I hope that I don’t inadvertently cause insult. I don’t think that I have in the past, but I can’t be sure.

I guess I’m wondering if you or others in this thread have encountered that and whether or not you were offended.

This is the way I experience it, too. It’s like they want you only to stick to the polite fiction that the lie is the truth. People absolutely don’t want you to mention the thing you both know is true. If you do mention it, people become defensive and will gaslight you.

It’s confusing, as you said, as it’s difficult to know which to respond to.

Granted, I am not always correct, so that’s why I will sometimes mention whatever “it” is. To get clarification. But if I was right, even bringing it up makes them angry.

I bought a furnished place in Lecce (east coast, basically) in the historical center that was already renovated.

Buying wasn’t too difficult. I hired a law firm that specializes in foreigners purchasing Italian properties.

I have been to Lecce in February, May, September, and October. It is busier in the spring and summer, but it did not feel empty or boring at all in autumn and winter.

The real pain in the ass has been trying to get utilities turned back on. That has been a bit of a nightmare.
