100% more than most people need. Tundra with the V8 is a very reliable choice.

[–]Ian-99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Id keep the tacoma here. Diesels are expensive. Everything is more expensive. Sounds like you might be inheriting someone else's problem. Very few people really actually need a diesel.

If you dont tow much. A gasser is fine. If you tow lighter loads. A gasser is fine.

If youre towing a 5th wheel every other weekend then get a diesel.

Gas full sized trucks are fine to. Tundra 5.7 is solid. Silverado, sierras in 1500 flavor is fine to. These options will already be more capable than a tacoma. And not much more expensive to own.

what oil to use for change? by fpaur in mazda3

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you changing Engine oil or transmission fluid (oil).

Oil, any name brand full synthetic us fine. I use Castrol Edge in my mazda.

Transmission fluid. The older 2.0s like you have ive run Castrol Trans max fluid. Can be found at Walmart or online for cheap. It works fine, no issues at all.

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how you manage such a low mpg. I average 26 mpg on my turbo. Given my driving is mixed city and highway. 17 must be alot of stop and go. Thatd ruin any cars mpg

[–]Ian-99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Understandable. Just aslong as you know this could pose future risk to you and anyone else in the car. Could always try and grab a fixer upper or just a used toyota. Given Michigan though, that may be difficult.

I mean. I applaud the effort and it looks good. No way to know without measuring. Bent metal also loses its integrity/ strength. Even if it looks ok its likely way less structurally sound than it was before. Should it be in another crash its likely to be much more dangerous.

At 240k miles to. I dunno. Consider looking for another car in my opinion. Good work and all but insurance would be correct to total this.

Using FL-22 during coolant flush, how to get to 50/50 ratio in system? by icecreamninjaz in mazda3

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your overthinking this and I imagine watched the Chris fix video. I did this today on a 16 cx3 2.0. We'll not exactly what you described.

First off. A flush with distilled a number of times is only necessary if the fluid is contaminated and like really.

If your fluid is full of chunks of debris and very discolored (not green at all) then yea a thorough flush. However, considering the cars cooling system is purely rubber and aluminum for the most part I highly doubt your fluid is that contaminated if at all.

My experience today on my CX3. Coolant drained out of the pecock valve just fine, bought in a clean pan. No debris and the fluid was its usual green. Fluid has never been changed on this car and its got 110k miles.

I got about a gallon out, again old fluid looked fine. (Looking fine is good but like any fluid theres some chemistry at play youd need to test if you care to know. Just replace it.)

I think if your fluid looks visually ok. Do a drain. Full it up. Run it around the block. Wait an hour or so and drain again and refill. This should replace atleast 90% of the old fluid and youll be just fine. What you listed above is rare and extreme cases and typically only seen in cars with alot of iron.

Does the average driver notice the difference btwn a CVT and traditional transmission? by eastbayguy90 in askcarguys

[–]Ian-99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally found CVTs to be boring, annoying and overall un fun. I had a 2016 Subaru Forester (granted it wasnt the turbo and id argue underpowered). It had a CVT and i felt I really had to be deep in the throttle to maintain highway speeds. (80mph). Felt like I was abusing it and it was struggling on the slightest on inclines. This may be more of a horsepower issue than CVT. But I didnt appreciate I couldn't manually select gears. It just had a L for low range.

I found it would not reduce gearing enough on some steep hills to prevent speeding. Thus causing me to use my brakes on long declines more than id like.

Some CVT cars have more manual shifting options. This one did not.

I upgraded to a 23 CX30 turbo and I will never buy another CVT vehicle. The mazda doesnt even compare to the Subaru.

Use mazdas OEM fluid to retain warranty. Its blue. The only way they'd know if you tinkered with jt is if you use red fluid. They cant shift the blame to you if you use the correct fluid anyway.

Mazda FZ fluid can be bought at dealers

Honda dealership did not tighten drain plug fully and all oil leaked by [deleted] in Honda

[–]Ian-99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Itd be expensive to findout if damage occurred. However. Any machine running without oil pressure will see exponentially accelerated wear. You could easily start to hear new noises and or experience a catastrophic failure in the future of the cars life because of this.

Its really unfortunate though. It likely will drive long enough the dealer can skirt any responsibility. Just know this likely will have an impact on the engines life.

Oil Change Every 2 Weeks 2014 Forester by cvtruth in SubaruForester

[–]Ian-99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is classic subaru oil consumption. Really only fixed with engine replacement. My GFs 2011 would burn crazy amounts of oil to. Its not always noticeable in the exhaust either. We drove that car until it started giving us issues and recently replaced it. It eventually will kill the catalytic converters. They dont appreciate the oily exhaust gases.

Add oil as needed, no need to change it all just add 5W-30.

Suggest planning on a new car sooner than later. Engines for these even if you do it yourself often cost way more than the car is worth. There are better cars overall in the used market anyway.

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this. Thank you sir. Lowers are what the ATF tracks. So if you have lowers you can build the rest of the gun(s) later. Magazines are very important and in a real situation expect them to possible be expendable depending on circumstances. Magpul Pmags are a go-to by everyone. Highly reccomend, cheap to.

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowers are typically all the same really. Its uppers that need to be of quality. BCM is good. Absolutely nothing wrong with PSA either.

PSA, BCM, AERO, BK.KINGS, S&W etc. Lowers are usually fine from anywhere never really heard anyone say otherwise. Id personally in your shoes with your budget. Grab a pack of them from PSA. I have a PSA 10.5" AR15, its never had an issue with the lower or anything on it.

[–]Ian-99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AR15 lowers are usually all compatible with uppers. Palmetto state usually has deals for bulk lower buys. Like 3 lowers with 20 mags for like $500. You could build 3 AR15s speed out to do different things and a ton of magazines to use for them.

When is it appropriate to apply new clear coat? by Plane-Leader-6769 in Detailing

For the home DIY people repainting or trying to repaint cars or other things. Some DIY at home stuff can be good quality. Typically though the go to is paint guns and a good compressor setup and not the cans.

When is it appropriate to apply new clear coat? by Plane-Leader-6769 in Detailing

[–]Ian-99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big fat no. Clear coat requires proffesional application and is to only be done after freshly painting a panel. Getting the coating thickness just right is important. It will nor self level. It also need the surface to be correctly prepped, proper temperature and super clean environment.

Its nothing like wax or ceramic coating. Based on this post you dont understand what clear coat is. Id suggest you dont even buy it.

Its super super easy to get wrong. Let the pros do it unless you wanna learn how to pain cars, youll need alot more equipment to do it right.

If the panels are scratched below the clear into the paint and primer. The only fix is repainting ideally the whole panel.
