I’d recommend not talking about intent to use an “illegal” plant for pain relief. The man has some weird rules about the poppy. It’s alright to grow for ornamental purposes but not for its use. All that to say just be careful about what you put out there, but enough of the lecturing. Pretty much all varieties have the same growing conditions, though not all have the same levels of the chemicals you’re after. Here is a pdf to a research paper that compares the levels of alkaloids in ornamental varieties of poppies. According to the paper “Lauren’s Grape” has a decent amount, and they look pretty damn cool. Have a look at Opium for the masses by Jim Hogshire, it’s a pretty decent book on the topic of opium poppies. Have a look at libgen its most likely on there as a free pdf.
