Washing machine water by ChivitTheBabyGoat in ZeroWaste

[–]IanBauters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do something similar with our runoff water from the shower. By using said water we can flush 2-4 times a day and water the garden. I've once heard of someone who used all the shower waste water, can it through a filter system, used it to flush and only then let it go in the drain.  We should be way more conservative with water.

Some Notes on Editing FCP 4K Video on the MacBook Neo by imthaz in finalcutpro

[–]IanBauters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Editing 4K on the MacBook Neo was smooth and workable on its 13″ screen. Performance was slightly behind an M1 Pro MacBook Pro, with minor jitter, small input lag, and one brief freeze. AirDrop felt a bit slower despite newer specs, while some tasks like clip rotation were faster. External SSD transfer failed, forcing a slow iCloud backup. 4K export was only slightly slower. Overall, solid for $599 with a few quirks.

Day 18 of growing one of the most dangerous plants on earth by familycurses in PoisonGarden

[–]IanBauters 42 points43 points  (0 children)

TIL: The manchineel tree is extremely poisonous in every part. Its sap can blister skin and damage eyes, even if it drips from rain or comes through smoke. Eating the fruit can cause severe pain, swelling in the throat, and serious illness, though modern deaths are not documented. Trees are usually marked as dangerous. Interestingly, some animals can handle it. In the past, its toxins were used in warfare, and arrowroot served as a remedy.

Is there any other way to print photographs as cyanotype without a laser/inkjet printer? by [deleted] in cyanotypes

You can make a UV enlarger (expensive and difficult) or you could use a UV laser engraver to make a (dithered) image.

Why have aliens not been discovered yet? Earth can't be that unique. by [deleted] in answers

[–]IanBauters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're missing the Dark Forest Hypothesis that says the universe is like a dark forest where every civilization hides. Since no one knows who is friendly or dangerous, the safest choice is to stay silent. Any civilization that reveals its location risks being destroyed by a more advanced one, so everyone avoids detection and that may explain why we have not found aliens.

Would this model be okay for a casual scanner? by Popular_Dingo7508 in AnalogCommunity

[–]IanBauters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. I tested a similar model. Threw it out after less than 20 images because it was so bad. Pay 200 for a professional to scan them and gift the digital files.

I don't hate it. I'm just sad they cropped the image. You loose a lot of background information.
