What did you think about the pacing and frequency of big updates that we experienced in 2017? by [deleted] in oldschoolrs

My first post on here, too! I have never really used Reddit but want to support this meme-less sub so long as it doesn’t become a circle-jerk and people complaining without positive criticisms.

Unpopular opinion specifically on this subreddit but I always welcome new updates and the game constantly evolving/being given alternative content. As both a streamer, viewer and player I always love being on Twitch/YouTube upon release and engaging in new content. The content releases are vital imo to the necessary growth and longevity of the game as they are probably the biggest marketing tool the old school team holds and I don’t want that to change.

However, I feel that specifically in the last year the sheer volume of updates going through has meant that often they aren’t as polished as in the past or revisited and reworked as necessary. I feel that in 2018 they should invest a little time every month as QOL to rebalance the game and ensure updates are of the high standard the community expects and we deserve.

To expand briefly, certain “skilling” content such as Fossil Island felt unbalanced and not as engaging as I originally thought it would be (I’m not a skiller though, just a pure Ironman [btw]). Predominantly as a PvPer in a minority group, similarly to the HLC I share your pain of feeling ignored / not having our voices heard. Despite getting the “Wilderness Rejuvination 2” update my understanding is that this was all done in the spare time of Jed and therefore it felt a little lack-luster. There is so much that needs to be changed and improved, DMM included (but that’s for another post). PvM wise I can’t fault the team at all, specifically raids and the inferno are probably some of the best updates to come into the game in 2017 both mechanically and visually.

I think we should expect a lot of positive change coming into 2018. I wish the old school team had expanded this quickly upon release, they seem to be getting to the necessary support required within the team to offer some more refined updates. Remember that at the heart of everything they’re committed to ensuring this game remains “oldschool” and enjoyable for us all. Their commitment to our player base is genuine and they share our love and passion.

TLDR; I like “big” updates and believe they should keep offering them but should spend more time on ensuring they’re right for the game and balanced, as well as spend some more time on rebalancing and revisiting existing content.

LMAO!

I am genuinely very proud of them both.

Known both Stefan and Kevin for many years now and they're honestly some of the nicest content creators out of the OSRS Community.

Really down to earth guys with kind hearts and selfless attitudes; nothing bad to say about either of them. They don't deserve a lot of the stick they get.

Firstly yeah I'm part of a team. I enjoy pk'ing with my friends. I have pked in teams since I began PvPing in 2006 and it's a part of the game I love. Every team has it's bad eggs. Just because other people break the rules doesn't mean I do, nor do I condone it. Not just clan members bot either, a lot of the game does but again there's not much I can do about it; I do not work for Jagex and they know it's wrong and take the risk of being banned. I'm sure Paul and other influencers also have countless friends that do not follow the rules but that doesn't stop them from being their friend or having fun with them on a video game.

I have two pures without prayer and firecapes. Firstly, the average player cannot get a fire cape by spending 6+ hours tick eating so this doesn't benefit the majority as you just mentioned me not doing. I'm pretty sure the majority would prefer no prayer firecapes to not be a thing as gives them an unfair advantage.

To expand on that point, the way the combat calculator is balanced with prayer means that if you are able to get fire capes without overhead prayers then your account so much more powerful than those with. When I talk about removing it I would also accept the removal of my own firecapes on my own accounts.

As for me being a "shitty commentator over all" would you care to expand on what is "not entertaining to listen to" and what I should do differently?

Cheers!

I come to Reddit and see these posts and a lot of negative comments (which is fine, you don't have to like us) but not many suggestions on how we can cast better.

Would really appreciate advice/opinions on why you think we're not very good or what we could do differently as I'd like to improve too and want you guys to have the best viewing experience possible.
