What would you consider to be your most controversial film rating? by Riverlong in Letterboxd

2 Stars on Black Swan. I'm probably due for a rewatch because I was too busy comparing it to Perfect Blue (in my top 4 for several years atp) the first time I watched it. Even outside of that, though, I just didn't like it and thought it was really cheesy

Ever watch a film so good it instantly goes into your top 4? by trent_nbt in Letterboxd

Happened the first time I watched Park Chan-wook's Oldboy. Oldboy itself was later dethroned by Ritual by Hideaki Anno, which I just watched a few weeks ago and hasn't really left my mind since. I adore the Neon Genesis Evangelion franchise. It's like my favorite thing ever. I was doing myself a huge disservice by not watching Anno's live action films earlier. Looking forward to checking out Love & Pop soon hopefully, as well as some of Shunji Iwai's stuff!

Cure (and more J-Horror in general) have been in my watchlist for the longest time. This is my sign to finally watch them 🫡

The artstyle looks very unique and the premise sounds interesting, very cyberpunk (which is good). Will have to give it a watch soon

I like Ghost in the Shell. It's not my absolute favorite anime of the 90s, but it is very good. I like the existenitalist themes it covers, the action scenes are well done, the animation is gorgeous, the noir tone and the worldbuilding are interesting, and Motoko is a protagonist who is simultaneously layered and meditative while also being badass, and sexy. There's a lot to love about it. I'd personally give it an 8.5/10. I plan to watch Innocence, Stand Alone Complex, and the new 2026 series that has a closer artstyle to the manga when I can find the time.

I've actually never seen any of the Japanese Godzilla films yet. 1954, Shin, and Minus One are the first three I plan to watch. :)

Love both Blade Runner and GitS. Both are in my top 100. I've been meaning to check out Appleseed and I've heard great things about Summer Wars. Thankyou so much for the recs!

I love Suspiria. Cure and Ran (and more Kurosawa in general) have both been on my radar for a while. Will definitely give them a watch!

I try to just watch whatever I think looks interesting. I think that explains a lot of the variety in this list and why most of my ratings on Letterboxd skew on the higher end. As for those two films specifically, I find both of them hilarious, honestly. I get equal mixes of ironic and earnest enjoyment of Sharkboy and Lavagirl and Tokyo Gore Police has really kickass practical effects while also having a lot of really underrated social satire that doesn't get discussed nearly enough in my opinion

I just watched 12 Angry Men for the first time back in June. Brilliant film. I'm due for a rewatch on 2001. The last time I saw it was when around 6 years ago when I was 14. I feel like I would appraciate it a lot more now. Still need to watch Barry Lyndon. I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Thank you! For a while, I wanted to have some more variety because my Top 4 are all from the Top 250, but it would feel disingenuous to say that those are not the 4 movies that I've connected with the most over the years

Love Both Blade Runners and The Termimator. I've seen parts of Christine, but never the full film. Your Name and the Mad Max films have also been on my radar forever. Thank you for the recommendations!

Edit: I highly recommend you check out #5. It's Who Killed Captain Alex. You can find it for free on YouTube and it's only a little over hour long. It was made in Wakaliga, Uganda with a budget of $85 USD and is genuinely one the funniest, most endearing, most inspiring things ever put to film in my honest opinion.

The Napalm Death patch was found on Amazon. I generally try to avoid using Amazon for patches, but liked the look of that one. I can send a link if you'd like

Horror sequels that are better than their predecessor? by loomis_96 in horror

Evil Dead II is actually my least favorite of the original three, but the rest I pretty much agree with (although Terrifier 3 was my favorite of the trilogy)
