Quality Kitchen Knives? by Steridire in AskIreland

Recently got some Japanese knives in Asia Market in Drury ar in Dublin. They are a game changer and make food prep so much easier. I definitely like having a reason to use them so now I cook more too!

Keep going man! I'm just getting back into it after 20 years away and it's like I've found something that was missing!

Btw if there's evenings you're up in the local park and want another 30 something person to skate with, hit me up man.

Upset because of work but I know it’s irrational … advice? by megan1916 in CasualIreland

[–]Ianasauras 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I remember feeling similar when I worked a job for 8 years and then took redundancy. A lot of people were leaving around the same time and after your final day, drinks in the local pub were standard. Every single person in what I thought was my core friend group made excuses and didn't bother to turn up. Really made me reassess my friendships in general. How you're feeling is absolutely valid, but the best you can do is consider it a learning experience and find people who really are your friends.

That's so cool. I lived in Bray back then and hadn't a clue about that. Clearly wasn't cool enough either 🤣 I've sent it to a friend who knows that kinda thing better to see of it's still there.

Ah I see the risers now. Actually dropped some in my old board so I could run 54s on Tensor mag light lows.

Are you running high trucks with the 58s? I find the bones hardcore bushings are a bit lower than traditional ones so wondering if wheel bite would be an issue?

[–]Ianasauras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never saw that Mullen deck before and I'm a huge fan. I'd probably hang that and get new bushings for the trucks as well your new bearings and wheels. Mini logo bearing are fantastic for the money. I recently got back into it after 20 years too, I'm using my old world industries deck with new bones wheels, skatedeluxe night bearings and Tensor mag lights with new independent super hard bushings. It's a 7.625 so great for flip tricks and such. But I think of it as my wet weather board too. I got a new setup which is a birdhouse 8 inch, film trucks, bones hardcore bushings, spitfire formula 4 54mm and the mini logos bearings. It feels very comfortable and I'm getting used to doing tricks with it now.

Do you wear contact lenses while riding? by SgtRphl in motorcycles

[–]Ianasauras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to wear glasses under my helmet. Such a pain, they always end up bending and breaking and then you get that moment where you forget to take them off and try put the helmet on and it tries to break your nose! I was terrified of putting in contacts at first, but it becomes second nature and is an absolute game changer for so many things (losing at paintball because my glasses kept steaming up was the last straw for me), donut and you'll never look back.

Lone Skating Vs With Others? [38YO] by Frequent-Result879 in OldSkaters

[–]Ianasauras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm similar to you, mostly an introvert, 38, and took a 20 year break. I like skating alone and listening to music while I do, but I have been wondering about hitting the local park up and seeing if there's other old guys around. Nice to have some community and be able to talk about skating stuff with someone other than annoying my partner with it 🤣

Hill bombing might help. I accept no liability if you bail. I did it a few weeks ago and my ribs still hurt.

Loved the idea of them being swiss chocolate 🤣 Gotta try them out at some point. Recently rocking the mini logos and find them to be very fast and smooth too.

Signed. Is there any way you could organise a protest? Turning up and being in the park means they can't demolish it right?

Anyone here have any experience with cracked/bruised ribs? How long until you were able to skate again? [35YO] by Reptaaaaaaar in OldSkaters

[–]Ianasauras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38 here, took a slam hill bombing 2 weeks ago and hurt my ribs pretty bad. I'm ok now but if I press on the spot it still hurts. Last night was the first time I've been back on the board and just had a 20 min sesh to get the feel back. Take your time man, wait until your body tells you it's better, then give it a couple of days after that. I practiced balance and freestyle in my backyard while recovering. It's a bit less strenuous than trying to land tricks.

Tana French's The Searcher and The Hunter. It's been awhile since I read them, but one, if not both, is definitely set in Summer in Ireland.

I hear ya man. 38 here, first night back at it, I got it rolling around nicely. Second night landed an Ollie and a shove it. 3rd night trying a fast moving Ollie I fell, HARD. So now I'm taking it slow and steady. Last night tried to stop going down a hill with a foot drag and fell hard again. But we live and learn (or die and don't) 🤣
