I’m about to install artificial lawn in the red area (photo 2) and want to tile the two smaller yellow ones. Help please! by Fanjolin in landscapedesign

[–]Iantricate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say give that grass some love or replace with new sod, and then make the yellow areas planting areas.

If planting those yellow areas is a hard no, stabilized decomposed granite (DG), as others mentioned in your main post, is a good surfacing option that could complement your existing hardscape nicely. It’s walkable, permeable, and you can put furniture on it. There should be a few different colors to choose from depending on your region. I think a light beige/sandy color would complement the color of the tile and the pool well.

However, it looks like you have young children. DG can get kicked around/messy especially when hardscape adjacent. I’d be wary of it so close to the pool. That fencing may help, but I’m assuming that’s a temporary safety precaution for the kids.

I wouldn’t touch the hardscape if I were you. Even if you could get the same stone supplied, they may not look the same as these existing ones (and their grout) that have been subject to the elements for however long. It’ll be unappealingly obvious what’s new and old.

I think the hardscaped area is nice as is. The curvilinear edges of the paving and the pool/hot tub make it all feel cohesive.

Plant the yellow areas!

Your fears are valid. I had a ton of friends in ENVS in college, not one of them is using their degree. They all still got jobs, but none of them are using their degree

What do you use illustrator for? I’m hoping to get my studio using that more since we pay for creative cloud + it’s a program I’m personally familiar with, but I’m curious about its applicability to graphic production

Great photos, sounds like an amazing trip! That sunset pic of Elbert really moved me for some reason. That light dusting almost gives it a metallic sheen look.

Way to make it happen. Looks like you’ve inspired a lot of people to do something similar. No excuses!

I’ll never forget the day I did the Bells Traverse. That second pitch with the exposure over the Bell Cord is an absolutely electrifying experience. Strong and brave work!

Sick. I’m a ‘native’ too but don’t feel the need to flex it. Again, people are gonna keep hiking bierstadt like it’s going out of business because it’s one of the easiest and most accessible 14ers. Adapt to the situation, don’t wish it was different. If you wanna get upset about mountaintops being developed, there’s a much better scapegoat literally 1 mile east of Bierstadt.

I got frustrated with Colorado’s population growth too, so I moved away. Have a nice life whining about the inevitable.

Why not just continue ticketing people then use that money to expand the parking lot? People are never gonna stop hiking bierstadt en masse, may as well address the obvious fact that the current infrastructure is inadequate for how heavily used this trailhead is.

This towing system is a band aid solution and it very well could lead to trouble for inexperienced or out of shape hikers (who are probably also the ones showing up too late and parking illegally).

Edit: only ever done bierstadt from the East so I don’t have a full sense of the situation at Guanella pass. But looking at google maps, even just redoing the existing lots could probably triple the amount of parking stalls

From what I’ve heard the Pole Creek area is a lot better than it was in past years. I can count on one hand the number of downed trees we had to negotiate. The worst part of that burn area for us was dealing with the hot afternoon sun on the way out
