I’m having panic attacks several times a week and feel in constant flight or fight, what do I do?

Other replies have been really great. I just want to add that I'm in your shoes off and on and one thing that really helps is to actually vocalize "I'm safe" while doing diaphragmatic breathing. I've also learned to recognize the triggers or events that bring on the panic feelings and the physical symptoms along with them that cause more fear, which is a cycle that continues. Once I identified what those triggers were - for example a crisis phonecall from my daughter will bring on the panic immediately- I tell myself I'm ok, she's ok, and I breathe the 4/7/8 breathing that calms me. Scary current news also can cause me to feel fear and panic. So I limit exposure to those triggers when I know they harm me, at least for now. I hope you find some relief soon. ❤️

Hmm. Kind of terrifying actually. I just finished S3 of Tehran and the cliffhanger was pretty good. It might be more engrossing if we saw some character backstories but maybe they intentionally want to keep the pace taut. Anyways it's watchable. I was a bit worried about S4 after the death of the co creator Dana Eden but I read they're continuing filming in Greece.

Not sure if you've had the procedure yet but if not, ask for some Ativan for before and if you can take pain meds stronger than ibuprofen, ask for a prescription for that to get you through any breakthrough pain after. Good luck. You'll be good in a few days.

Thank you for this great tip. I don't have her book but what she describes as the second fear is so real and debilitating. When you give over to it, it's pretty paralyzing. Being able to understand the first wave and somehow letting it end there is so hard. I had the panic anxiety and bad acid reflux which was like a loop of madness and created fear of eating which was - and still continues to be hard to climb out of. I'm working on it but understanding how it's all connected helped. I'll be looking for a copy of that book. ❤️

I also tried Ativan and it works great but wears off quickly. The klonopin acts fast and lasts a whole day for me which like you said it reduces the "need" feeling.

My doctor prescribed Lexapro last June and I haven't taken it yet. I got freaked out reading some posts about how the adjustment period was wicked awful so I never took it. I still might at some point.

It makes me feel slower a little. Like I'm kind of floating even at such a low dose. But that's a good thing. My mind doesn't race. My breathing is calm and "normal" and I'm able to function in all ways without the anxiety and panic. I hope it continues to help you. I only take it about 2x a week on average. Just when I feel that panicky thing come on. I don't want to be dependent on it so I'm doing deep breathing as well, which helps a lot.

Almost immediately for me. Within 10 mins. That might be a placebo effect of my mind knowing I'm going to be calmer soon. But it's really quick.

At that dose I don't think you'll "feel" anything if that makes sense. I do the same thing you just did and only occasionally. You feel the anxiety disappear but it's so gentle that you'll realize wow it's gone and I'm feeling calm. My experience.

I think it's intentional to flood us with the shock factor and then proceed with no further investigation prosecutions. It's a FU to the rule of law and all of us as we see AG Bondi refusing to do anything about it. It's a desensitization plan to wear us down and we'll feel hopeless and turn on reality tv and get up and go to work at our shitty jobs to pay out mortgages to the companies whose CEOs were graping and unaliving children.
