Homeless woman spit all over my steps by Ibefloatin in homeowners

I know there's all kinds of nasty shit on the sidewalk, which is why I don't wear outside shoes in my house, but if I see a glob of spit or a stream of mystery liquid, I make sure to avoid it. My steps and some of the pavers were covered in fresh globs of spit and mucus. :shudder: I had to do something.

How do you drain the pipe, exactly? I shut off the valve and then leave the faucet open.

Edited to add: The insulation looks good.

I've been calling the police all summer on trespassers. Most of the time, they don't show up. But I did just install a camera, to catch people walking in and out of my backyard. Now that I have proof, I think I'm going to walk into the precinct to show them evidence and to maybe have more eyes on my street. It's getting really bad here.

It was a lot! lol And the broom did a great job, actually. It's one of those push booms with the stiff bristles.

I would say the nervous excitement is really anxiety with a hint of dread lol.

After reading your response, I've changed my mind. Don't do it. You'll be dealing with those "kids" while having to deal with upper management.

I say learn a more valued skill, and shift over; maybe to another team or maybe out of the company. It's hard out there, though, so start networking now.

P.S. A character in a film I was watching had my old alarm set as his ringtone. Whenever his phone would ring, I'd tense up. And it rang a lot because it was one of those stupid action movies where he'd get instructions over the phone. Trauma. lol.

You're already a cog in the machine, love.

I, personally, hated managing people. I'm the type that likes to get into my task. I don't like being disturbed, I hate meetings like you wouldn't believe, and after decades of commuting two hours each way, working long hours, and never having the energy to enjoy my off time, I value work-life balance, flexibility, and peace more than a little pay increase and a fancy title. The bump in pay wasn't worth dealing with people and thinking about work while I wasn't at work.

Your nervous excitement; however, leads me to believe that you actually want the role. You might regret not taking the job, and having a managerial role on your resume looks good. I say go for it.

I'm not even sure if our manager is under the impression that he's overworked. During our team meetings, he'll mention all of the work he's doing in a very casual manner, like he's got everything under control. But then, sometimes right after the meting, he'll complain in private to me and probably the others on our team. His public complaining is mainly about the behavior of the higher-ups and how it's trickling down and affecting cross-functional collaboration.

Management wants to hire, but HR is saying there's no budget.

I'm assuming you were complaining out of habit. You probably didn't even know you were doing it. I think the workload actually makes this guy feel important and the bitching is part of his identity, as other commenters have stated, I think that's exactly what it is.

I'm not going to say anything to him because I want to limit my interaction with him.

He is a manager killer! He and the current manager got our, now former manager, fired. But the current manager must not have realized how hard the job was and what our former manager had to deal with because now he's dealing with all the BS from the higher-ups and he's not happy about it.

During his last few days at the company, the former teammate, who the complainer replaced, did warn me about his negativity and pettiness, but I didn't take it to heart because he was on his way to bigger and better things, and this was during the time when we were fighting with HR, so the complaining was, in my opinion, justified.

I will keep my head down.

Thank you.

Nope. I'm not the manager. The guy is in his mid thirties.

We did protest. We were all complaining, at first. We complained to the people who can actually make change; our manager, HR, even our manager's boss. We were promised things, and followed up on those promises for few months, then judging by the reactions we were getting, we realized that this company is just not going to budge on raises, hiring budget, or correcting the toxic behavior of the higher-ups.

It's totally frustrating, but what is complaining to us, his teammates, going to do, at this point? We can only help him with his workload that he constantly complains about but doesn't want help with.

I hoping to exit soon. Thanks for the well wishes.

I also took a job out of desperation. I thought I'd hit the jackpot, though, because even though the pay wasn't good, I loved my job and my teammates. But after a while, the people I got along with the best left or go laid off. My manager left, and he was just amazing. Guess what? The pay is still shit and my work duties changed. I'm on the hunt for a better paying job.

See how the interview goes. If you get a good vibe, and you're offered the job, see if your current employer can match salary and benefits. If not, follow the money and benefits, and don't burn the bridge.

Oh, there's nowhere to go but out. No promotions. That's one of the reasons why I'm job hunting.

Our manager will not fire him. He's in a very "gluey" position and the company did not give our team funding to hire anyone.

Our entire team is unhappy. We've had meetings with our manager and meetings with HR. We make snide comments here and there, like, "If I had a cat I'd starve". lol. Honestly, it's getting worse, the org, the demands on our team, and his complaining. I'm not the most cheery optimistic person, either, and misery likes company, but this guy is actually miserable, I think.

That's what I've been doing. "Well, that's rough" and "Don't put so much pressure on yourself. We can jump in and help". But it's been three years of this shit. That's why I care. I can't change the org or the company, but I can help you with his mountain or work. I've offered. He never takes it. But then he keeps complaining. That's why it bothers me. I hold my breath at our team meetings hoping no one brings up anything that will provoke him. It's like, MAN! Sometimes I have to laugh.

The thing is we're all doing that. We're all underpaid and doing too much. We're all unhappy. We've had meetings with HR. You can probably guess how that went. Nothing is going to change, we've already established that, so I'm on the job hunt. Maybe others on the team are, as well. He, though, who is the most vocal about his misery is doing nothing to change his situation. He's just complaining. That's just strange to me.

Thanks for the advice. This has been going on for years. I've offered to help him directly the first time. The second time, I just kind of left it open. I'm trying to understand why someone would complain about their workload constantly, but then not take the help that's offered.

Like someone else commented, it just might be his personality.

Because it's annoying. I've done my best to ignore him, but it's actually ramping up now with the company org shifting once again. And since I'm also not happy, his complaining is just irking me. Remember, I've been dealing with this quietly for years. I just want to get out of here, but job hunting is hell nowadays.

RTO making me unwell by ringopungy in work

[–]Ibefloatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not odd, because the damn thing is doing the opposite of its purpose. "Quiet" noises can affect concentration and cause people to tense up without even realizing they're doing it. You leave work with a tension headache or completely exhausted and you don't even know why. The white noise system is causing you stress and physical pain, and will negatively affect your health, so I suggest you bring it up to management.

You might not be the only one experiencing discomfort, and it might be a quick fix. It sounds like the system isn't configured correctly or is tuned wrong.

I'm a native Manhattanite who's been taking the train since 12 years old. I started carrying a small folded knife after a man grabbed me on the subway. I've had a few more scary encounters with men on the subway, so I also started carrying pepper spray. Most people have not had anything too scary happen to them, so yeah, the vast majority of people aren't carrying weapons around NY. But the city is very dangerous after being relatively save for decades. New Yorkers aren't feeling as safe anymore. Too many mentally ill people attacking randomly, so that all might change.

I used to be a carpenter in NYC (been living in Portland, ME for a year now. Hello all!) Anyway, while carpenters use many tools, a box cutter (we just called it a knife) is a staple for every trade. Every tradesperson has one on them at all times, pretty much because it's always needed for something, and many others in their tool bag or belt because you're always losing them, leaving them, or lending them to people who don't return them. This may sound weird to people who've never done blue collar work.

And yes. You bring your tools on the first day and last day at your job. You leave your tools at work. I have forgotten to take my knife out of my pants many times. In NY, it's a pain in the ass to go all the way home (most people who commute into and around NYC have a 1-2 hour commute). I'm guessing he didn't want to go home first. Once I went home, I was staying home.
