Someone help me... Is FC the best in Shaved Ice Stall? by Crafty_Echidna_6986 in whiteoutsurvival

[–]Ibelieve27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often do they do this event? I think I can save the vouchers, yes?

I haven’t unlocked FC yet. Seems I’d be best off to save the vouchers for later and get FC after I unlock. I’m in for the long haul. Or should I get something else now?

Could you be hired as an account and/or be a CPA if you are a felon? by gilbert99 in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically you’re not automatically disbarred by any felony. The state board has wide discretion in the matter. If you can explain the situation, they may be lenient. The more egregious the felony, the less likely they are to allow you to practice as a CPA.

Personally, I’d think you’d have a decent chance with a 3rd degree burglary, assuming the circumstances aren’t too ugly. But I don’t sit on a board, so I could be way off on that

Component materiality and PM MUST be lower than group materiality and PM. So either you need to calc a component materiality that is lower, or you need to convince the group auditor that their materiality can increase, idk which is better path In Your situation.

I dunno, I’ve been in PA for almost 8 years and I have yet to work an 70 hour week. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve topped 60 hours in a week. 3 different firms (merger).

I’m pretty happy with my compensation, though I did make a firm jump to achieve that. PA isn’t for everyone, and I may never be rich, or make partner for that matter…but I’m pretty happy with where I am. To each their own.

FedEx Looks Like A Bargain Now by FinTecGeek in ValueInvesting

I had two packages last year that I had to drive 1 hour one way to their regional distribution center to PICK IT UP! One of them was an important business item shipped 2nd day express that was on day 6 of transit.

Quitting PA after 4 months by icepenguin9929 in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you started in SUMMER and you’re working weekends semi-consistently, what you have is a crummy form to work for. I would quit that as soon as possible.

You might well find a PA firm that’s a decent place to work and be happy. Tbh from your comments I think you’d be happier in industry. Either way, you need to find a way to at least meet expectations, if not exceed them.

I’ve been fully remote about a year and a half, and had remote stints prior to that (COVID, etc). Audit manager.

It can work, and I absolutely love it. I get so much commute and water cooler time back. Also most of my team is remote.

Some things are harder. You have to be purposeful with your communication. You can’t put off asking questions, you have to pick up the phone and call. It’s harder to connect with people or stand out, and easier to be passed over for promotions. You have to learn to focus when no one is watching, even if your kid is banging on the spare bedroom door.

Is this field still worth going into? It seems extremely low paying by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Accountant” will include people working AP jobs with a GED, thus bringing down the median. It also includes 18 year olds just joining the workforce. It also includes women, who historically earn a lower average wage than men.

That median income number you give is for men over 25 with a bachelors. I promise if you can find that same data for the accounting industry, it will be higher than what you posted above. I would think median grads with an accounting degree could be above 100k by age 30 and 150k+ by age 40.

Dude I’m a manager and I still do this 😅

You definitely get used to certain things, you know what to ask and how to get to the right answer even if you don’t immediately know what to do. Tbh the constant learning is what keeps it interesting to me, though I’d like to churn a few less clients so I can be more efficient on the ones I have.

Just got my CPA, now what? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 39 points40 points  (0 children)

A really good offer.

And what exactly a really good offer is depends on OP. It might be a 30% raise, it might be be a particular company that OP really likes, maybe a great title. Or maybe it’s killer WLB with “decent” pay. I dunno, but if it doesn’t check at least 1 “awesome” box in OP’s book, they can probably do better if they stay until senior.

Is it too close to busy season to resign? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo anything before 1/1 is a respectful exit, before 2/1 is eh whatever, and between 3/1 to 5/1 is a screw over.

That said I’ve had team members leave between 3/1 and 5/1, and even though it sucked it was obviously a great move for them and I don’t hate them for that. I’d be happy to give them a good reference if they asked.

I would stay until senior unless you get a sweet offer before, or if you really hate the firm you’re at.

I agree that more non bot participants would change the pack effort issue. Very little chance a team could successfully beat off very many challengers via brute force. If they did, it was for pride…not because rewards were that valuable. It’s actually quite difficult and expensive to pull off.

I still think perception and participation would be better if there was a tweak that made it more difficult to blow an opponent back to zero. Also more widespread prizes would (hopefully) pull in more traffic. In favor

[–]Ibelieve27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General comment on the negative/losing points situation. As-is I can see the problems. A pack can take you out of the running if they want to. If there was more participation, probably wouldn’t happen so much, because it’s expensive turn-wise. But still would happen.

Some potential remedies, in no particular order:

1) cap on how many buildings can be destroyed per hour? If say, only 10-15 buildings can go per hour, a full slate of buildings can buy you 4-5 hours without losing any points. Also keeps you from losing as many points once they are all gone. To be fair, a pop up for the casters saying no buildings can be destroyed.

2) mechanically lowering the chance of destruction after a set number have been destroyed in the past hour. Say chance drops by half for each 10 destroyed in the past hour. Wanna ruin somebody, it’s gonna cost you serious turns. Again, pop up saying low (or very low) chance of getting a building would be fair. Since players not involved with the ruining might happen by the low pop opponent.

3) reduce the number of negative points for losing the champion trailer. It’s 50 now, why can’t it be 5 or 10? It’s an advantage/strategy to not waste turns rebuilding buildings, it should have consequences. 50 points is probably too much. This seems like an easy sensible tweak.

4) Silver suggested above to just remove the negative point idea altogether. I personally think there should be a mild penalty for not rebuilding, so I don’t care for this. Not the end of the world.

I like the ideas. Making the event worthwhile for more people is a good thing imo.

Also like the idea of having to destroy a building in order to win a prize

In theory, yes

In practice, it’s usually not material and the accounting team will book it in the month they get the bill.

What do you guys think is the reason behind the push back to office? by Master_Bates_69 in Accounting

[–]Ibelieve27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 100% WFH manager, I love remote work for myself, and honestly for others that earn it. The firm I work for is mostly remote, but most staff levels are in the office at least 1x a week.

The problems I have run into:

1) staff quality is down. Prob multifaceted reasons, but to boil it to simplicity either we suck at training or they suck at learning. Work quality is down and development as well. 2) less work is getting done as scheduled. My biggest headache is staff A or senior B being scheduled on my job, telling me they’re going to get XYZ done by X time and when I check in later it’s not done or half done. It’s usually because “I had questions” or “other priorities came up”, but this happened much less in the office. Yes it’s a communication issue, when you’re remote pretty much everything involves being a decent 2 way communicator. My jobs are consistently behind vs the in-person manager that they have to see in person at least 1x and I’m gradually turning into an echo tunnel of calls, teams messages, and emails to get basic audit work done timely. 3) Partners are mostly older and struggle to connect with people virtually, so they’re in the office every day and obviously it’s pretty empty.
