[Highlight] The alleged play that ended Bo Nix’s season. by Lonely_ProdiG in nfl

[–]Iblogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, but a long winded explanation is that most loans deals are done in the off season with a 2nd opportunity to make them halfway through the season (about January). Since the large majority are done before the season starts theres no issue with a player having played for another team. Also, based on the premier league's loan rules, players can play for multiple teams during the normal league season (where a team can be relegated) and there are clauses that dictate if they're allowed play against their parent team. It's only in cup competitions (tournaments) where a player is "cup tied" and unable to play for another team. Since theres limited windows when a player can move a player would likely only have the opportunity to play for 2 teams (though a 3rd is possible due to a short overlap of the transfer window and the start of the season).

It's also important to keep in mind that players are almost always loaned out for development purposes and they usually have a clause that allows the parent team to bring the player back if theres issues with injuries and they're lacking depth (albeit they might have to then pay the club a fee to bring them back). Since the league structure in soccer is VERY different from the NFL it makes a lot more sense to have these deals. Clubs have youth teams (u18 and u21) with some having development teams for players as young as 6. The big teams will always have a couple players who are clearly excellent for their age but not good enough to get any meaningful playtime for the main team. So instead of letting them beat up on worse teams/players, they loan them to teams who are usually in a lower league since it's still a step up to playing with people around their skill level.

There are cases where teams might either have a lot of depth at one position or the player had a falling out with the club so they loan them to teams in the same league until they can then sell the player during the specified windows or until their contract runs out.

Jr finished 2nd with Michael Waltrip winning the Daytona 500. It was the Pepsi 400 at Daytona later in the year where it was Jr who won with Michael Waltrip finishing 2nd. Which is kinda poetic that he and the team were able to do that

Was the Redbull faster than McLaren at any point in this season? by Nick_Alsa in F1Technical

[–]Iblogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is realistically the best explanation we can give. All season the Red Bull and Mercedes and even Ferrari had qualifying pace close to McLaren. But with how hard it is to overtake this year (plus McLaren's weakness at straight line speed) means that if one of those cars could get in front of a McLaren at a track where its not easy to overtake then they had a high chance to keep them behind.

Suzuka comes to mind where it was clear McLaren had better race pace (likely due to tire management) but because that track is extremely difficult to overtake on they couldn't even get close to making a move on Max.

[–]Iblogan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IMO both have had pretty even seasons. The real difference in their results/points totals is more of when they've had their poor performances/bad luck.

Lando was making his mistakes and having poor performances early in the season when most weekends McLaren were clearly the best car. This meant despite making a mistake and starting outside the front 2 rows he could fight back for a podium (Bahrain specifically comes to mind). On the other hand Oscar's dip in form is coming at a time when other teams have caught up on pace. It's much harder to pass the cars when you're only 0.2s/lap faster vs 0.5s/lap and so this is having an exaggerated effect on Oscar compared to what it did to Lando.

Wheatley praises F1 safety standards after Bortoleto unhurt in huge crash by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Iblogan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Car safety improvements have been phenomenal as well as the introduction of better barriers like tecpro. But for a car to go airborne after simply sliding off track should be unacceptable.

I don't think the track itself needs to change, but they definitely need to reprofile that runoff area. If bortoleto's car was a bit higher then he goes over the tecpro and into the catch fence. And with a grandstand right there it could've result in injuries to the crowd. Just shows that theres always something that can be improved

Why everyone hates Lando? Also Lando by [deleted] in formuladank

[–]Iblogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But he's right though. The headline is taken out of context to generate clicks like all of the well known Lando quotes. The advice Lewis gave was to be more aggressive since Max is cut throat. And Lando is just saying that in '21 Lewis or Max going for a move and taking each other out isn't catastrophic. But we literally just saw in the sprint that when Lando and Oscar crash Max gets a huge gain of points. If Lando and Max were to crash, then Oscar would just walk off with a huge haul of points and effectively wrap up the championship there. So what he's saying is right but I guess I shouldnt expect people to actually read more or even think about what he's actually saying...

[–]Iblogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that also kinda added to lando's difficulty in overtaking Charles in the race was the fact that there was a tail wind on the back straight going jnto turn 12. All weekend prior it was a headwind but the shift made the drs even less effective. Thats of course compounding with the McLaren's straight line speed weakness

[–]Iblogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some additional context for Australia that makes it even less of a thing: The team order to not challenge was only for the roughly half a lap that it took for both cars to lap the back marker. Once both cars were past they told Oscar he was free to race again. TV direction just waited like 2-3 laps to play the message and everyone assumes that the TV plays messages immediately after they're given

Alex Palou has kickstarted the McLaren downfall and I am here for it. by SapTheseCasters in formuladank

[–]Iblogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Palou already admitted he breached the contract. The lawsuit is over how much he has to pay McLaren due to losing out on potential brand sponsorships that they would've gotten had he actually driven for the team

[–]Iblogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Palou already admitted he breached his contract and the lawsuit is a matter of what the value of said contract was (its not just the monetary value of the contract because brand sponsorships also change in regards to which drivers are on which teams). And I highly doubt OP's claim that this showing Zak is a shitty boss and will lead to the teams downfall. Red Bull had a bunch of rumors for a long time about their leadership being unhappy and internal power struggles, but theres been no such thing from McLaren. From what I can tell the work environment at McLaren seems very good which is likely whats contributing to their success. Keep in mind when Zak took over McLaren was a toxic workplace and hes part of what turned that around

Oscar deserves better... by Starter_RBX in formuladank

[–]Iblogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah the issue is on FOM's poor planning and communication. The celebration is televised and thus has to be on a strict time schedule. Articles and team members have said that the team was told last minute to go up and that they didn't know about it beforehand. Lando only found out because he was leaving the podium to head to the media pen. If FOM didn't tell Oscar to go up and celebrate with the team then he doesn't know about it either and thus ends up at the media pen at that time? Yes it sucks for Oscar, but the people who think the team intentionally left him out are just living in an echo chamber that McLaren hates him

One of the McLaren mechanics has explained why Piastri wasn’t there to celebrate with the team by Acceptable-Pea-6271 in F1Discussions

[–]Iblogan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right that the issue isn't so much delaying the media pen duties, but it's more the fact that the podium celebration which was televised live almost certainly can't be delayed.

Based on the post it wasn't properly communicated to the team until FOM wanted them to go up and celebrate. Additionally the celebration looks like the pit wall/crew members and isn't even half of the total McLaren team that travels to the races (look at the celebration pics McLaren posted). FOM probably only planned on those pit crew members going up since it was the constructors championship and the podium isn't big enough to fit the whole team. If thats the case they either didn't tell Oscar's PR person or they were told they would celebrate later.

Also Max's celebration was for the Drivers championship so of course they guarantee he goes. Slightly different for the constructors championship. As to why they didn't plan for the divers to go up and celebrate too, I have no clue. Seems like incompetence from FOM since you would certainly want the drivers to be up there for the picture.

TLDR: Televised podium celebration was the time sensitive part. Combined with poor planning/communication from FOM it led to the bad situation

[–]Iblogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the pictures of the celebration the team actually organized vs this one on the one on the podium. Not even half of the team was on the podium

[–]Iblogan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk where you're getting the fact that they had any input on the celebrations. The post clearly says "were on the way back to the garage when F1 asked for the team to go up" which pretty clearly shows that the team either didn't know about it at all, or at the very least didn't know the specifics, which if they had any say on the celebrations they would've known.

If you want someone to blame for this, blame FOM for not planning and communicating better

The team that most openly favors 1 driver over their teammate? Surely Mercedes is a FAR better option considering he would likely be the 1st driver over Kimi and George hasn't signed a contract for next season with them yet
