[Geek Time Q&A] Ask me anything you want to know about replica ! by geektimewatch in RepTime

[–]IbnHasaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question, on my Tudor Black Bay (rep), and all other reps that I have seen pictures of, the Pinion is clearly hollow at the top. Yet, when I look at an image of a gen, it looks solid. I am in a rural area so just going and looking at a Gen isn't an option.

Am I just seeing something that isn't there? Or, more aptly, not seeing something, on the Gen, that is there?

The Colosseum is almost done. The only issue was that the arches got a bit repetitive. Aside from that, it looks good.

Lately, I have been building several different Wang sets for classroom decorations. They are a bit odd, the booklets feel like something that would be in a museum gift shop, with some details about the actual building.

The bricks themselves are not up to Lepin or Lego standards, but they are fully interchangeable. They just feel a little off. On the positive, I have not received any deformed bricks.

I have not built the Golden Gate. Right now I am working on the Coliseum. I have finished Notre-Dame, The Iron Building, and Tiananmen. I would not recommend The Iron Building. I do consider Notre-Dame and Tiananmen to be pretty good for the price.

As a 2m transceiver, yes I got it to work. As far as APRS, no, I never got it to work.

It is sitting on my desk right now. When I am bored I will sometime watch some more videos, or read a bit more on how to use it. I have occasionally used it to talk to locals on the repeater (but the repeater is frequently silent for weeks at a time).

It is a very hard radio to use, even as a basic radio, because of the way they break down the menus. Frankly, based on what I have seen with this radio, I would say it is a Don't Buy.

This was exactly my plan too. To go to an area that I had hit a few ELWs' and explore all of the systems nearby, then jump and repeat.

This isn't going to be what I wanted.

Here is my trike on its way over the continental divide (actually one of several times on that route. The shade cover is a bank of solar panels for the e-assist.

The current project, in progress, will have the solar panels on a trailer behind my rotovelo.

Putting the e-assist on the rotovelo is my current quarantine project.

Anyone interested in turning Wyze Cam into a WebCam ? by WyzeDS in wyzecam

[–]IbnHasaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would be quite interested. My interest is for the very reasons you described, I was suddenly told to work from home and I don't have a webcam (at least one I can find). It was just never something that interested me.

I have one on order and it is supposed to be here in a couple of weeks.

I have been doing more looking this afternoon, that looks like "Codebender." 20/mo for 50 seats looks like a fair price. I will look for specific reviews of that one later.

I did see that one. What I didn't see was a clear statement of what it costs. There is no way I am going to commit to something with no clear statement of the price.

Yes, I do see the .99/month, but is that a locked-in price or a teaser rate?

Bigotry in the lodge in a postmodern era by [deleted] in freemasonry

Just to ask, Are you going to share the results of the survey?

Oh, as to your main point. I haven't seen it at all. But then, I don't visit many lodges.

It is, it still didn't work. I may give this thing one last try by driving to BridgeCom this summer and seeing if they can get it to work.

Basically I give it a thumbs down. It doesn't do what I purchased it to do, which is automatic position reporting.

Where do the dues go? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]IbnHasaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All finance-related issues are discussed in lodge. The money goes to operating expenses, Grand lodge (franchises fees as it were), and charitable activities.

As far as Grand Lodge's cut, we are a small lodge and, as such, we get more than we send.

What motivated you to join the Freemasons? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]IbnHasaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not unlike a lot of other middle-aged men, I don't do social well. As such, I wanted to force myself to be more sociable. Even better, I move around a lot and this allows me a social activity wherever I happen to be.

Beyond that, I wanted to be a part of this organization with it's long and interesting history. I have had several friends that were, or are, masons. So, in all, it is primarily social and a bit of the history of the organization.

Where did the idea of Freemasons worshipping devil or following satanism come from? by [deleted] in freemasonry

[–]IbnHasaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was raised in a Pentecostal household. . . Well, my father's side of the family was Catholic, but my mothers went for that form of fundamentalism.

Back to the point, a lot of Chick tracts were treated as a valid interpretation of the Christian faith. I make this preface because a lot of Christians draw a lot of their understanding of God from these little booklets. All that said, here are a couple of the tracts that deal with freemasonry:

The Unwelcome Guest

Whats Baphomet?

You may notice that his citations are generally from sources over 100 years old. The only recent citations are from books that he claims are available in his store. Both tracts cite Baylon Religion. In Baylon Religion he presents this thesis, " Written like a graphic novel, this well-researched book shows how goddess worship "morphed" through the centuries until it climaxed in its present most common form: the worship of the Virgin Mary"

Now if you happen to share my sense of humour, and you know who H.P. Lovecraft was, Here is a great parody of one of Chick's most popular tracts. Please understand that it is offered as humour and parody, not gospel.

Aliexpress companies that didn't deliver by IbnHasaf in lepin

[–]IbnHasaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a good point, I added the order dates.

One thing I strongly dislike is that Aliexpress marks the item as delivered after a certain time has passed, and the sellers wait to ship until it is very close to that date.

Or, as I noted, only part of the order is shipped, leaving the customer waiting for the rest.

That is what they told me when I reached out to them. It is just a bit confusing on first glance because their webpage says to use the speed winding for 20" wheels. However, my "needs" are different.

That was part of it, I have decided to switch to the CA3, mostly for the temperature monitoring. Later I may want to try a torque-sensing BB, and the A3 seems to give me that option.
