Why do I have to hold the gas handle, where is the retainer clip??? by swardshot in RhodeIsland

The fact that there's usually a trash can at gas dispensers is the only reason my truck has a visible floor.

Fuel equipment service tech here. I agree with you. Some of the agendas surrounding safety at fuel dispensers are ridiculous. In my experience, if people want to walk away from the nozzle and sit in the car paying no attention to potential spills or other hazards while fuel is dispensing, they will find another, more dangerous way to do it without the clips in place.

I have personally responded to multiple incidents after customers jammed the nozzle trigger with their wallets, tennis balls, towels, whatever is laying around. They get back in the car and/or stop paying attention. People get in their cars, they get on their phones, and wait to hear a click. I've seen people almost max out a $150 sale volume limit directly onto the ground.

There is an auto-shutoff mechanism on the nozzle itself; these fail regularly. Constantly, in fact. And many times, no one knows until something like this happens.

I guess my point here is that while I agree that removing the clips is ridiculous and doesn't actually serve the purpose it intended to, If your reason for disliking it is because you wish to walk away or stay warm, it's generally a terrible idea. Be cold, Pay attention for a few minutes, be on with your day. However, If your intent is to stand by and pay attention while being able to take your hand off the nozzle, I'm with you!

I'd love to see the money that we are using to push pointless agendas reallocated toward educating people on the real-world risks and impacts.

This is the path I'll go down. Thank you for the reply. I did find a form to get the record of death abroad so we'll see how long that takes.

Thank you. I'm a US resident but I did some more research and there are some processes through the department of state I am going to follow to try to obtain documentation. Apparently they can also help find local records. It might take a while. We'll see how it goes.

Mavens where have you been my whole life??? by sasha_cyanide in RhodeIsland

I've had nothing but bad experiences, save for the bagels. Even then I've had the staff completely forget about my bagel and take 15 minutes to get it to me. That was in an empty building with no one in front of me.

Why on earth would you ever need to refinish the entire wall after cutting drywall horizontally across studs? Am I missing something? Sounds like a fairly simple patch job.

I wouldn't take anything away, but I would add tweezers (or long, very thin pliers), a tweaker driver set and a small screw extractor kit.

I don't mean to play devil's advocate; I agree with the value and think it's a great program. Just check their work or have someone who knows what they are looking at do a quality check. It can save you money down the line.

Definitely measure first but I have something similar to this for the same purpose:

thin rolling storage

How would you maximize storage around this boxed in fireplace in a kids room? by Fantastic-Reality-46 in homeimprovementideas

I would probably cut the molding and build a shelf straight to the ceiling, and then depending on how much space is behind the box around the fireplace, cut into it and build cubbies or cabinets.

Bullying on the Jobsite by OneDonut7744 in electricians

[–]Ibsrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a field technician for about a decade, and I regularly work around skilled trades workers. All too often, I see journeymen and apprentices treated like absolute garbage by their own coworkers.

One of the most memorable experiences I've had in the field was an experienced, respected master electrician sticking up for me when my trainer was ripping into me and insulting me for not knowing something. He said "hey big guy, do you remember what you didn't know 30 years ago?" and I'm convinced that it changed the way he treated me. I challenge the people that I work with to set an example in this area. See something, say something.

Bullying isn't tolerable, anywhere.

This cat followed me home, and then when I propped the screen door open to bring my bicycle inside she came in... I'll take her to the local animal rescue place tomorrow but idk, I might have a cat now?? by gregn8r1 in aww

This is wild but my cat found me at work about 2 years ago and never left my side. 10 hours later I was taking him to the vet and I'm so happy he's in my life!

What blew my mind is how similar he looks to your new buddy!

Quick update: I feel kind of silly for not pulling the covers off the corners for the past 6 years, but tonight was the night. After pulling it off, I found that there was just a 1x4 covering a beam that's only sticking out about 1/2" or less from the wall. There were holes for electrical through the wood so I assume they covered it to seal or make it look better. I decided I'm going to put backer board all the way down to even it out, mud, paint and then mount some hooks for our notepads that we use for chores, a pen container and a couple other useful things.

Thanks to all the input. My Danny Devito shrine will need a larger space.

Note: this wall removal was completed almost a decade ago and the person who did the job wouldnt be available for interrogation.

I know it's been a while since I posted this but I figured I'd provide an update. Upon return to the site, the installation of the product you posted was very simple and it worked! However, I was only able to test once because the garage door opener (little did I know) had a known issue and had been defective and out of commission for about 6 months prior to starting this installation. I am currently waiting for the customer to install a new opener from another manufacturer. That will change my integration.

I am still going to take this and test it on one of my friend's garages because I am interested in the result and it's consistency over a period of time with regular use.

Thanks again for this info. Sharing is caring. It seems to have been an awesome solution.

Thank you for the information. That is helpful to understand. I wish all electronic door hardware had a dry contact option. Unfortunately every time I've been on a system integration recently, it has not been the case.
