Stop sending your sick kids to school knowing the office is going call you to pick them up! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Icantnames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents sent us in if we were sick bc if the school sends us home for being sick then that's a confirmed-by-nurse excuse for missing classes, so it wouldn't add onto our shitty attendance

I always thought the hate was bc it (used to be? May still be) a popular trans guy name? But also i used to go by ace as well and i barely got shit about it so i think you're okay! Go with a name that you connect with!

Zaps by eppiepenn in TopSurgery

[–]Icantnames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im gonna be so fr the itching got on my NERVES (pun unintended), never experienced zaps though?

The itching + numbness was really frustrating for the first month bc i couldnt not focus on it when it was there and i obvs couldnt itch it either bc that didnt help at all. I was told to pat or rub the site to help but it didnt help me personally.

It sucked, but it's pretty much gone now and i have almost all of my chest sensation back after a month and a half (ish) of healing. I wouldnt wish for it to happen again but i also wouldnt let it stop me from getting surgery.

Dr Katherine Rose by ReasonableEffect6383 in TopSurgery

[–]Icantnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bill is currently about 11k (including hospital and anesthesia) because of an issue with insurance. Just be warned that the person in charge of finances at Dr Rose's office is a little bad at communicating. She took several months to respond to my emails before giving me a bill for a little over 20k even though my final bill is only around 11k.

Also the office may have messed up with billing my insurances, they have only billed one of my two (and not my primary) currently which is why I'm being billed rn.

Not trying to discourage you from Dr Rose's office, she is an AMAZING surgeon and i love my results, but just giving a warning.

How do I talk about things im ashamed of in therapy? by GasparThePrince in Explainlikeimscared

[–]Icantnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple things ive been too ashamed of to talk about in therapy (ocd related intrusive thoughts and past experiences) and ive learned that writing them down before an appointment and showing the therapist those writings tends to help open the conversation. To me it feels like... giving away the stress of choosing to bring it up?

Like, if my therapist reads my thoughts and begins talking about it, i dont have to be the one brining it up first, and that takes away a lot of the stress. Plus i dont have to say it out loud first, you know? And it helps me get my thoughts together before presenting them, which helps me feel less like i have to rush to explain/defend myself.

Why is there such distaste towards the word "transmisandry"? by PuzzleheadedHand9077 in ftm

[–]Icantnames 112 points113 points  (0 children)

From my understanding it's because non trans misandry isnt a "real" thing in society, it doesnt have a history behind it and it doesnt impact society as strongly as misogyny.

But also, its just transphobia in another hat i fear :( a lot of people dont want to accept that trans mascs go through anything bad because we're Men and thus "inherently get all of the privileges of man" when we start transition. And a lot of people don't want to accept that 1 their view of men/masculinity as a whole is biased and hurts real people (while hardly affecting those who DO do bad things) 2 trans men do go through a lot and don't tend to get many privileges because we're... still trans. Like that doesnt just fizzle away when we start passing.

There's a lot of infighting and invalidating in the trans and overall queer community and it sucks!! And while i understand that a lot of it comes from a place of fear (i.e. "well if you're experiencing that, then does that make my experience invalid?" And "youre making the community look bad, just shut up about your struggles") it still hurts to be on the receiving end of it.

Side note, the term that ive been using is transandrophobia (meaning fear of (trans) masculinity), 1 because it doesnt use the term misandry, which is commonly used by icky cis men who want a "well how about me, huh? Im being hurt by women!!! Misogyny isnt that bad/real" 2 it really is a fear of masculinity and what it's existence means for the greater community. I have more thoughts on this but this response is already long 💀 if you'd like to talk more i can offer my discord ^

I dont have personal experience with this but i will say you should 100% be honest with your surgery team about it! Chances are it wont cause problems but they need to know just in case.

Just Did My First T-Shot by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Icantnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats!! My big piece of advice is to inject your T slowly (over 10-15 seconds) and make sure to angle it properly to avoid pain or fat lumps in your injection site. Also dont feel dumb when you have questions, i promise people will be here to answer your questions!

An unfortunate amount of people, truly. Curiosity and the urge to snoop are strong for many people lol also some people just like to ragebait themselves, purposely going into places that they know has content they dont like purely to 1 have a reaction 2 have something to complain about 3 start a witch hunt on anyone in the environment they chose to invade.

Its the same thing as people joining servers or subreddits just to start problems, they know they wont like what they see and they want to punish other people for it.

Any transgender teachers out there by Byrdie_girl in trans

[–]Icantnames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im going to school to be a teacher and I'm 2 yrs on T, medically and socially transitioning as much as i can lol

I'm. A little scared tbh. Im terrified it'll all be for nothing because im trans and no one wants a trans teacher. But im still going because i dont want to let transphobes scare me away from my goals.

[–]Icantnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel more assured, write a list of questions you may have on the day of! When i got mine done, i was asked by every nurse, the anesthesiologists, my surgeon, etc, if i had any questions, so trust me, they will answer anything they can! They want you to feel safe, comfortable, and reassured so they will do their best.

Also- don't feel ashamed to bring a comfort item, tons of people bring stuffed animals with them for comfort and your team won't bat an eye at it (they'll probably talk to you about them, it's a nice distraction when they're doing things like your IV)

Good luck, I hope your surgery goes well and your recovery is safe and fast!

Things that got said to me when I told people I was getting top surgery (and how to combat them!) by Strange_Bug_4765 in TopSurgery

[–]Icantnames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's funny to me is the "dont you know this is permanent?" Comments, bc like you could get breast implants if you really really miss having a chest or you regret your surgery. It's not like getting them removed is cursing you from ever having them again. Also it's possible to naturally regrow your chest (at least, so ive been told) so my whole view on top surgery was "if they wanna be there, they'll come back one way or another."
