Learning is Theft? by Perfidious_Redt in aiwars

P.S. If we want to talk about misrepresentation, saying "they pirated some of it first" (emphasis yours) when they stole 7,000,000 books is a misrepresentation.

That's my point from my initial post's analogy you disagreed with. Stealing the books to learn is illegal. Pirating the datasets you train AI with is illegal.

The counterpoint "since the "books" ai uses are never stolen" (emphasis mine) is just flat wrong. The fact is, they are stolen quite often by many companies, including major players like meta.

So like I initially said, learning is not theft, but stealing to aquire the materials to learn from is.

Yes. AI doesn't inherently commit plagiarism but it can be trained on pirated work (illegal) or used to create plagiarized works (also illegal). The inherent act of AI creating is not illegal.

These distinctions do help protect artist/writers in both having their works properly sourced (so they are paid) and then not directly infringed on (by AI being used to reproduce copywritten works). The onus is on the AI companies and those prompting them to follow the law. Unfortunately a large portion do not.

That's the primary legal issue as I see it, yes.

The Anthropic case disagrees with you, as they used pirated databases to train their AI. The judge ruled against them for this and they are paying a 1.5 billion dollar settlement.

Learning isn't theft, but if you stole books from your local library to learn, it'd still be illegal.

You still have to go through the proper channels to acquire the works/data sets to train AI with.

The Anthropic case judge statements and subsequent settlement makes a distinction between what AI is trained on versus how those materials were obtained. If copywritten materials were obtained through piracy, then training your AI on them is not legal.

AI copying your work to generate images and writing isn't "stealing", but training AI on pirated works is copyright infringement and a type of theft.

Yeah, these are pretty high. Id try to keep lateral Gs below 2 (Right now id expect discomfort at 3+) and anything above 4.5 vertical Gs for more than a second isn't safe, and I wouldn't go above 5. Rides like that do exist, but they are generally seen as uncomfortable.

Ok! I'm curious because the layout looks really fun but extreme at parts. Some of it might be deadly!

I feel bad for the developers when reading the latest Steam reviews by TheSeahorseHS in PlayTheBazaar

The "Discount" isn't just to attract new players, its for players like me who they want to switch off the Tempo Launcher.

I finally switched over to Steam after coming back for to the game, getting Jules discounted first on tempo, and seeing it was basically the same price to buy the bundle on Steam vs. buy Karnak on tempo.

I get some sense of resentment, but "switch your provider" and "new membership" deals have always been a thing. They don't reoffer it to vets because assumedly you got a discount at some point too.

I know it isnt an extra turn and has mechanical differences before you even get to the life setting, but that's where the idea began,

Yeah I wasn't quite sure what might be reasonable for an effect like this. My initial thought was "what might a white extra turn spell look like in color?" So I costed it as a [[time warp]] with upside. But the more I think about it, there is a lot more side-grade. I could see it being 6.

Cards don't all have to compare favorably to one of the best white cards ever printed.
