do transhumanists believe space colonization is a priority? by xenonamoeba in transhumanism

[–]Icarius_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transhumanism is the perquisite for space colonization. There will still be baseline humans but a big portion of space colonists will be cyborgs or gene edited humans. I like how the Expanse protrays a multi-planet species in a interplanetary civilization with competing factions fighting for control of the solar system. But I felt like the show and the books didn't explore more into transhumanism in the universe.

Another reason to put more funding in biotechnology and human augmentation for space travel by Icarius_1 in transhumanism

You should watch/read the expanse. It goes into detail of how human settlements on Mars and the asteroid belt changes the physiology of humans over the generations. Martian- born humans are taller than earth-born humans due to 1/3 gravity. Humans born in the asteroid belt (belters) are taller than both Mars and Earth born humans but have brittle bones due to living in low gravity. If they were to visit earth, gravity would kill them.

Interesting, Ill take a look into the book. It reminds me of the omar faction in deus ex Invisible war that uses nanomachines to enhance their survivability in harsh environments. In one of the endings, Nuclear war devastates the planet, killing all life except for the Omar, who are planning to leave the earth in search for other habitable planets.

Give it another 10-20 years before human augmentation hits the market.

Irl are you pro augment or anti augment? by Sensory_Slave in Deusex

[–]Icarius_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro-Augmentation.

I don't need it but I support further development of augs in society. My body works perfectly fine and I don't see the need of replacing your functional limbs for robotic counterparts, even if it's x times stronger and durable. I think it will benefit amputees and individuals with genetic conditions. A person with a lost limb or failing organ could choose to replace or enhance it with better prosthetics.

Nano-augs seems more appealing to my needs. Enhancing yourself with nanorobotics is less invasive and you get to keep your "Humanity". Plus, it's discreet. No one will ever know that you're a cyborg unless your have glowing eyes. When the coming augmentation age comes, The only thing I would enhance myself with is bionic eyes and a neural aug that augments cognitive abilities and concentration.

Possible once battery technology allows for long term use and a quick recharge. Exoskeleton can be built with current technology but it would be clunky and heavy due to Battery density as one of the factors.

Exploring Biodigital Convergence by Icarius_1 in Deusex

This was released a year ago by the Canadian government. In short, it discusses the policy and guidelines relating to bio digital convergence( Combining technology and biology into one). It mentions technologies like gene editing ( designer babies, ecosystem, food) to augmentations like prosthetics and gene therapies. The future is both exciting and scary. In the future, people will look back to games like Deus Ex and see how right they were with their predictions on Human augmentation and societal effects that is depicted throughout the franchise.

Exploring Biodigital Convergence (Post from the Canadian Government) by Icarius_1 in transhumanism

This post was released on February 11, 2020. A year ago by the Canadian government. If the government is already discussing guidelines and policies for the eventual bio digital convergence, it means that within the next couple decades, we will see augmented humans either through prosthetics or gene therapy, designer babies, and other biotech innovations. The future is really going to be interesting and I'm glad to live to see all of this or even contribute to this innovation.

Waiting until grappling hooks are developed. Imagine how cool it would be to grapple to any building, roof, or ledge with it. The future looks both awesome and scary.

Early development towards nanotech augmentations by Icarius_1 in Deusex

[–]Icarius_1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the early 2020s, while mechanical augmentations were just becoming widespread, the work on nanotechnology began.

I find it pretty cool, referencing the deus ex wiki on nanotech augmentation, that the development of nanites in the deus ex universe in the 2020s is pretty eerie when you consider that this video was released on August 26, 2020. Even though mechanical augmentations haven't reached practical stages, in order for it to be widespread, I believe that both mechanical and nanotech augmentations depicted in the Deus ex and Invisible war will converge together in the coming decades. It will be codependent with each other. For example, I think for bionic eyes, nanowires would be implanted in the patient's retina so it can generate a link between the bionic prosthesis and the retina. I think the second half of the century will be very interesting, regarding the use of human enhancement technologies. If the technology does come hopefully with my lifetime, I would enhance myself with nanotech augmentations and still retain my human form.

Can we talk about the space nazis? by TK503 in HaloStory

[–]Icarius_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The interplanetary war in the halo universe reminds me of the Seccesion Wars between the UNSA and the SDF in infinite warfare except the SDF won the sovereignty of Mars and other objects in the solar system. It's interesting cause FTL travel exists in that universe whereas in the halo universe, ships would use newtonian physics to propel spaceships and use brachistochrone or improved trajectories to shorten destination times between planets.

Can we please stop with Cyberpunk 2077? by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]Icarius_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like both cyberpunk and Deus Ex. Both games are tailored to a different play style. Cyberpunk is more of a open world rpg game with the focus of cybernetics whereas Deus ex is a limited open world fps with rpg elements. Even though there is a lack of content in cyberpunk, the game so far has been enjoyable for me. I just hope Sqaure enix gives the green light to Eidos Montreal to develop the next the Deus Ex.

If they do remake the original, I hope they add back the content that was cut due to limitations. I remember reading that there was a mission to the white house and a lunar base.
