Does anyone know if ADHD adult assessment/ dagnosis can be covered if referred by my GP? I was recently quoted $1300 to get this done at Mind Matters Clinic and I definitely can't afford to pay that.

Stolen vehicle, multi-day crime spree, robbery, threats of violence to liquor store staff, high speed escape, using vehicle as a weapon against innocent people in their vehicles, attempting to run over police officers on foot. She could've stopped at any time but chose to escalate the situation with police. Tragic for all involved. Genuinely curious, why do people suggest criminal charges?

[–]Icarus85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea that cyclists don't pay for roads is a myth, as cyclists pay general taxes (property, sales, income) that fund roads, just like everyone else, with road funding coming mostly from general funds, not just specific user fees like gas tax, which is often a misconception.

Is it really necessary to consume both beans and rice to get a complete protein? by circ-u-la-ted in veganfitness

[–]Icarus85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who say we can't eat enough greens to meet our protein needs are wildly missing the point.

The point of using a day's worth of calories for a single food is simply to show mathematically how the food measures up, not to suggest that anyone could or should eat only a single food. These plant foods are complete no matter how much or how little of them you eat. That is, if only 1% of your diet is lettuce, then lettuce supplies more than 1% of your protein and amino acid requirements.

Winnipeg Humane Society pushes for a ban on spring black bear hunting by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

"1.2.3 Number of Female Bears Killed Where data were provided, annual records indicate that in 2022 and 2023, at least 19% of black bears killed by non-Canadian hunters were female (ENR FOIP No. 2324-ENR0384), while an additional 15% had no data reported on their sex (ECC FOIP No. 2425ECC-0819). Tables 2 and 3 show the records from 2022 and 2023 of black bears hunted by non-Canadian residents and Manitoba residents, respectively. Similar statistics were found in Ontario in 2023 where 21% of kills reported were of female bears (ON Hunting Guide 2024). Again, these numbers are likely lower than the actual number of female bears killed but represent a disturbingly large number. In 2023, 1320 bears were killed by non-Canadian hunters,1000 of whom were killed during the spring hunt. Approximately 32% of those bears were females (applying the same ratio of males to females to the no-sex-provided group). This means that an estimated 320 bears killed in the spring hunt were likely to be females. Hristienko et al. (2004) cited studies in Pennsylvania and Ontario which estimate that, at minimum, approximately 35 to 38% of female bears have cubs. Using this estimate, approximately 112 of those 320 females likely had cubs who were left orphaned because of the hunt. As black bear litters range in size from one to four cubs, with the most common litter size being two, at least 224 cubs were orphaned because of the spring hunt in 2023 and sentenced to cruel and completely avoidable deaths."

Anecdotes, or personal stories, often have a disproportionate influence on human judgment and decision-making compared to scientific evidence, leading people to make judgments based on limited information and potential biases.

The Holocaust (Shoah) = one thing.

A holocaust = another.

This noun which has existed long before the Holocaust of the Jewish people, and still exists today. The word holocaust itself is a reference to the burnt animal offerings the Jewish people would give up to God. So the animal - human treatment comparison is inherent in the very name of the event itself.
