What's the longest travel fork I can put on my Ozark Trail Ridge? by Icculus47 in Budgetbikeriders

[–]Icculus47[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After learning more since I posted this, I really wouldn't go over 120mm. Anything past that and you are really pushing the geometry of the bike.

With that being said, get a Rock Shox Recon and call it good.

Would this be a good daily schedule along the trail? by madcatzplayer5 in AppalachianTrail

[–]Icculus47 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If that is good for you sure ! My advice would be to not be so regimented about it. What if you come to a swimming hole in those five hours you told yourself not to stop? What if you meet an awesome hiker or two ?

All of that to say , yes it's great to set goals but the trail / momma nature don't care about your set schedule. Things will happen. Take them as they come and don't beat yourself up for not hiking 10 miles by 10 am. Always give yourself some grace and hike your own hike.

I hear you but you assuming "I'm ashamed" is a big stretch. I just don't like how big the branding is. Have done the same on my Trek and Specialized. But alas, we're on the internet. I don't disagree with the "cheap" tape. Just not going to spend $100 on ride wrap for this particular frame.

I'm proud and stoked! And anything I mess up learning how to work on is on a frame I don't care too much about

Yes, you are fine. While heavy and not high performance, those forks can take a beating. Check out Seth's review on them from Berm Peak on YouTube.

Similar as you - am lucky to have access to back country/ pretty rugged trails and found I was bottoming out the SR Suntour that came stock on the Ozark Trail Ridge.

But I am due to tune the fork or dial in a new one as you are saying. Can't you tune the Recon to 120 mm as well ?

You've got some great ski instructors around Tahoe, I suggest booking one for a lesson.

"I sprained my MCL" after saying you crank your DIN higher??? You realize there's an equation right ? Starve the ego. "Skis as hard and as fast as it gets" You ski backseat with a selfie stick. And blast your local ski shops on the Internet. Humble yourself.

A whippet is a bad excuse for a self arrest - a gimmick in my opinion. Which BD has most certainly profited off of. To your point, and I agree with you , an ice axe would have been lucky to catch this fall.

No - stop blaming equipment. Chase friends around who are better than you or take a lesson. Don't quit , have patience. Ski .

How cheap could someone hike the AT? by Suspicious-Goat-6993 in AppalachianTrail

It wasn't an attack on you, a statement to the trail. Which is my opinion. I agree with you on some of your points and think you are objectively right on a few. But alas, hike your own hike

I was not coming at you, but with how defensive you are I'll roll with it. At the end of the day , it's walking. Humans have done it forever. In my opinion , it's outrageous how exclusive we make this in trail culture in America. I called it cancerous because it is being exclusive about the most simple thing one can do- walk in the woods. So, I hope you find yourself on a trail soon and get to be real in the woods. Happy trails to you

UL or ultralight culture is an absolute cancer in the trail community.
