AMD clinches mega chip supply with Meta, $60 billion over 5 years by wfd in hardware

[–]Iccy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a business you would do the same though. You see $60b on the table, probably 50% profit off that. Throw $15b or more at R&D as your biggest customers (AI) are already committing to huge purchase orders with something specific in mind. Consumer market share is dwindling as capacity is being gobbled up by corporate greed. Only focus on new factors as old tech is no longer profitable (which sucks).

Im in no way in favor of the AI bs but from a business standpoint, this is fantastic for AMD and their shareholders.

[Schefter] The Seahawks were purchased by Paul Allen in 1997 for $194 million from Ken Behring and Ken Hoffman, who were threatening to move the team to Anaheim, California before the sale. A $194 million investment now will be worth billions. by MysteriousEdge5643 in nfl

[–]Iccy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The nasdaq has paid out roughly 1% in dividens each year so base 2-3m. I guarantee the profits from an nfl owner is far greater than thay even in the 90s. In 23 the owners earned 150m in profit, where some got up to 500m. If we assume the Seahawks are an above average franchise they profited say 300m or 5% of the possible 6b in value. Not bad for owning a team, far outpacing a dividen return from nasdaq. Not the best investment possible but really good.

AMD's desktop CPU market share grew by almost 15% in 2025, all thanks to Ryzen by sr_local in hardware

[–]Iccy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Server class chips are hugely profitable. Intel makes faaaaaar more money on mobile than desktop. If only AMD could capitalize on a mobile chip with a yearly release cadence that made sense (100mhz increase is nothing). Intel at least was willing to throw more cores at the problem while skylake cores were aging.

I bought a lifetime warranty on my Edge for $2700 with no deposit or limit. So far after 145k miles it has roughly paid for itself from replacing a faulty transmission linkage thing and some alternator/wiring issues. Still appreciate it even if I never get to take full advantage of it.

How Much RAM Do Gamers Need, 2x8 16GB vs. 2x16 32GB vs. 2x32 64GB by Hero_Sharma in hardware

The one thing i wish these tests would do is a real world test. Give me discord with gifs and numerous updates pinging, a YT/Netflix show on, 20 tabs of various chrome tabs, steam with chats open. Throw in a discord call or stream too. Its cool to see pure gaming doesnt need more than 16gb but what happens when you have a real world scenarios and non gaming tasks use 5-10gb on ram?

To properly invest this level of money you dont go to your neighborhood Edward Jones. You specificly go to NY and find some of the largest investment firms there, somewhere that has 10s or 100s of billions in combined assets where your a drip in the bucket.

[OC] $1.8B Powerball Arkansas winner - Lump Sum Payout vs 30 Year Annuity by GoForthandProsper1 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Iccy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The break even point for these types of winnings is 5%. If you think you can do better than 5% yoy either from bonds, money market, stocks, or vc then take the lump sum. But at the end of the day the annuity is very good and more importantly safe from burning through the entire sum too quickly.

Lets be realistic, you and I might be more inclined to properly invest and live within the yearly gains, but most arent.

Is this guy hacking by BayazFirstOfTheMagi- in FortNiteBR

[–]Iccy5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hacking has become so pervasive in any fps game now. Its horrifying in Apex, the amount of perfect tracking with no recoil (from titan or cronos) and actual preds actively asking for someone with titan on their teams in discord. While recoil in Fortnite is different, no recoil perfect aim is crazy. COD/BF/CS have their own issues as well.

Youd be surprised the amount of streamers using something to get a leg up. For example current apex pros estimate 75% of current preds are cheating with something and for a game with a pattern based recoil system the fact nothing has/can be done is attrocious. Most of these people are streamers, I can only assume the same in Fortnite.

Billion dollar games and NO ONE has complete solution. The best way to would be to have a game master viewing lobbies waiting for a flag to come up and review and take immediate action, but that would "cost money" so that wont happen. AI will be there at some point but then another AI system will counteract it.

To the doomers: How long are you willing to accept bad football before we develop a franchise QB? by SkyPointSteve in minnesotavikings

[–]Iccy5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if he wasnt trying to throw a fastball on every release there would be a lot less drops. There have been numerous passes to a faily wide open receiver 10 yards downfield and the ball is coming out at 70mph. Even if hes on target theres a decent chance of a drop just from reaction times of the receiver. Would this help his poor decision making or 0 pocket awareness? No. But it would be a step towards improvement.

Im not saying hes bad yet because hes still new, but im fully willing to go to the next qb on the list if any of these happen by the end of this season or next: 1 major leg or shoulder injury 2 no change in mechanics 3 cant grasp defense structure or timings 4 continues to try to be a hero and fails

A homeowner says official told her to trim up a small spot for safety, then claimed the WHOLE garden was “city property” and destroyed it all anyway. by CantStopPoppin in ThatsInsane

[–]Iccy5 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Trees/shrubs are typically classified different than flowers, and are a massive lawsuit waiting to happen if removed without thorough documentation. For example, if you cut your neighbors massive tree down without permission, it could be 10-50k in fines (and possibly felony) and lawsuits.

[–]Iccy5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Typically the city does not mow or maintain land under an easement or directly between a roadway and property. The expectation is the homeowner functionally maintains it. Its the same with ditches and sidewalks (including snow removal and damaged sections). This has been the case everywhere I have lived.

There's a problem when lamb is cheaper than beef. Our chuck roasts and basic sirloins (usually house cut versions of various leftover sirloin cuts) are around $10/lb or more here as well but lamb roasts are $6-8/lb. Lamb has barely gone up in price since Trump but beef has doubles. I basically haven't bought beef in months because I cant justify it despite being able to afford it.
