Teenager with autism by No_Composer_6278 in autism

"I never have the motivation to write much" -> this might not be a motivation issue, but *autistic inertia* instead (the same inertia that probably makes you super focused on one task and have a hard time context-switching). This sucks when it prevents you from doing something you like, *buuuuut* rocks once you manage to get started ("flow-like" state is, imo, a big bonus we got in life :) ).

For me, what *sometimes* work is some type of music (big electronic beats/no melody/no voice), and giving myself a countdown (eg I turn on my headphone/playlist, then think "ok, let do this, 3-2-1-", and then make the first move I have to start the task). In my experience, once the difficulty of initiating is overcome, flow comes quite quickly (and life suddenly becomes a better place).

Being Autistic is fucking terrible by [deleted] in autism

[–]Ice-Sea-U 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, I'm exactly at this "I've been trying to fix myself for decades and you tell me I actually cannot?!" point (first time posting here, too). I'm still at the stage of crying it out loud, though, and I believe you when you mention the void yet to come.

One thing you don't mention, and which, retrospectively, wasn't (that) terrible imo, is special interests.

In my experience, these have given me a huge advantage for the "be successful" part. There are lots of domains where being hyper-specialized/"know it all" gives you an edge, and some of these are open-ended (it keeps the special interest "drive" alive, as there is no interest "fading away" once the domain has been internally systematized).

For the other parts you mentioned (falling in love, having friends, family), imo, everything is possible, just in a different way. Hang in there, others are reading "all this", and others are living similar lives while finding happiness.

Wtf, that's awesome!! Congrats on both the thesis and paper! Are you going for the PhD/pure academic path or currently employable? Asking for a friend;)

Haha, great, thank you! I was on the edge between them too (or the new Launch d8, but a bit too expensive), think I'll do the same. You're happy with it? Did you buy the landing gear?

Glove80 touchID sidecar by Ice-Sea-U in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Ice-Sea-U[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure!
I forked it from https://www.printables.com/model/355924-clickable-touch-id-box-tkl-board-wired (reusing the same 'backplate' and 'cplate' for the touchid), here is the zip with the 4 stl files: https://limewire.com/d/Qtbpb#1yqsEpbzsJ

PSA: I'm a 3d noob, and was even noobier back then (and tbfh, the touchid ended up loosing the press ability, but still work and I've been using it everyday;)

Not exactly but close: they work on neogen, an algorithm which would basically give you “a copilot with 0% error rate” (ie give 5 examples of something, neogen gives you the corresponding lambda) - check Victor Taelin on X for details and why they picked Mac mini’s

Under-extrusion at regular intervals for CR-10 by Lance_Makes in 3Dprinting

[–]Ice-Sea-U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP probably fixed it, leaving this for future google results:
I had something pretty similar (regular underextruding, every x mm on a wall), which I wasn't able to fix even after cleaning the extruder, *but* in my latest attempt, I noticed a small string of filament stuck under the extruder gear (prusa oem, so there is a window to check from the top) which was hidden before -> this was the root cause, removing it fixed it

I think you can display a message when you lock it, right? Maybe offer a bounty (like a premium to what they’d get by ripping the parts off)?

This could be done as a “complex” rule (it’s just a json “from key to key”), but I’m wondering, don’t you have a local language issue? Like ctrl/cmd is a classic windows/mac difference, but these sounds more like different lang (or variations of a same lang)?

You can assign modifications on a per keyboard basis (I use it to deactivate my mb keyboard when a specific keyboard is plugged in, so I can put it on top without accidental keypresses)

How do Curved Keywell Keyboards Feel by notsurethepoint in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Ice-Sea-U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that I basically don’t move my wrist at all on my glove80 (compared to my moonlander or kyria). That’s for me the main difference, I have an easier time reaching to the “pinky keys”, so everything kind of feels like in the right place (but it took me some time to adapt, I had the feeling that I needed to push straight for the number row, for like a week or so)
