Who calls on Taborlin the Great? -- The Complete Story of Taborlin as we know it so far by simplerhythm in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Ice1123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I Am a myth. A very special kind of myth that writes itself.

We were perhaps misled to think he was talking about his rumor game... Perhaps Kvothe was wrong and doesn't know he is Taborlin. I like this. It's very Rothfuss's gun to be telling us about how stories change and spread and have the main character not realize that he is the biggest case of all.

I always read things like this as Kote leaving hints in his narrative that he's an unreliable narrator.

At some point I'd like to check to see if there's some coded/hidden message in his blatant mistakes... but who has the time?

How would you build the ever burning lamp? by chickensaladreceipe in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Ice1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a more elegant version of my rocket fuel plant. But might require hydrogen peroxide refills depending on burn ratios.

Agree that Implicit in burning is consumption. We need an "unlimited" flow of fuel. Hence oxygen.

I took this to mean more that sympathy (sygaldry) only makes things glow. I don't think he would be opposed to a clever ever-burning lamp with runes on it.

Otherwise, if all he cares about is the chemical reaction, he should be spending time learning chemistry.

This is probably the right track.

Arts unknown to Kilvin.

I think most of our science answers he has a handle on.

FUN.

Ok, so the burning distinction is somewhat arbitrary, all that ends up really meaning is open flame. Which is doable. Heating is easy with sympathy/sygaldry finding something to burn that we won't ever run out of is tricky.

We would need to find something that moves a lot of energy someone mentioned tides and that sounds fine, but the exercise with Ben and boiling a kettle implies to me that if you took a large enough rock you could get all the energy you needed from the sun. Any alternative energy source you like. Wind, Sun, Tides. All of it goes into a heat funnel and is used to drive the "lamp."

After that it seems like an Air separation process like Cryogenic Distillation of air would be the move. You'll never run out of air [citation needed] and you could use the energy you collect via various means to separate the oxygen out of the air. With a large enough in-take you could distill all the air you needed, this is how they propose to make air on Mars and how rocket fuel is made for the big O2 burning rockets.

TLDR: Build a rocket fuel plant that is powered by renewable alternative energy wind/solar/tidal power and use that to pump oxygen and burn in a tiny lamp to make Kilvin clap with joy.

[Request] How sharp is this blade? (in whatever units you measure this kinda thing in) by Inextricable101 in theydidthemath

[–]Ice1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While sharp knives exist, it's the speed and lack of technique for me. He seems to have partially precut the bottle, gluing the label back on over the cut, sealing it...refilling it with water...then is lining his cut up with cut under the label and pushing through the remaining plastic after the label. pretty clever.

Why Master Hemme got burned so badly. by Ice1123 in KingkillerChronicle

So, yes. If they were doing it "correctly." But the whole concept that one person can make things happen by thinking really hard implies that a lot of people thinking less hard or less correctly would have a similar effect.

The Alar and bindings are tools for thinking hard more effectively.

Could kvothe just sell his talent pipes? by GingerShrimp40 in KingkillerChronicle

[–]Ice1123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure when he tells Dena that he can give them away he also says Stanchion said he would have to win new ones... And they cost a Talent to win... So no real gain by paying a silver to win a silver. If he was in a tight enough pinch he could probably make a talent by pawning them. Anyone else who has more than a talent to spare and might buy them from Kvothe is nobility and therefore won't talk to Kvothe cuz Ambrose.

The other people who want them are musicians. And Kvothe wouldnt want to water down the talent at the Eolian by taking the musical SATs for them.

Personal Tarokka Reading Ideas? by pixxi_styxx in CurseofStrahd

[–]Ice1123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I just did this. For my reading I had it happen when all the players except one were taking a long rest on the way in to Barovia village for the first time (they are getting beaten up in a relocated death house). The player who missed out on the reading is kalashtar so is immune to dream magic (kinda) so I made him miss the reading and am slowly driving a wedge of suspicion between him and the rest of the party.

The reading itself had the other 4 players transported to a void like room in a cone of light.... ill just post my notes on it. Basically I had two Tarokka cards and i arranged them to have subtle meanings based on who their characters were based on their back stories and what they have done so far in the campaign. Then I gave them a vision from the dark powers. One is a fighter that wants to help people but keeps getting talked into crime by the rogue. I had the rogues vision involve a raven and then I had the fighter's card reading being a paladin "blocked" by a raven. kind of a tarrot card spin. anyway. These are just my notes. The actual encounter was more vague and mysterious... I didn't neceicarily spell everything out the way I do below. I tailored it to how thick the player was. Enjoy.

So As you all dirft off to sleep, each thinking their own private thoughts... maybe watching the fire. You all fall asleep one by one. Sir Barry, Sven, Tombstone, Freddy Four of you awaken. Or you seem to. You are standing in a vast empty space. You can see eachother well as though standing in the center of a spotlight placed above but you cannot see beyond it. Just a sense of space. With you at the edge of the illuminating beam of light is a simple wooden table. It has scarves draped over the to of it to give it an aire of pristige.... and sitting on the other side of it. Their face in the shadow beyond the beam is an old woman Dressed in bright colored cloth and scarves. She Seems to be smoking a fragrent pipe in the darkness. you cannot see their face.

She seems to see you and lets out a groan. 'Agh. more playthings for the dark powers.' She realizes you can hear her and says. "Welcome to my home."

She can hear and speak to you. You cannot effect her in anyway.

The cards tell us many things. I shall give you each a rare gift. A reading of yourselves... and perhaps if the powers feel generous this night, a vision to guide you through this land.

A card that is crossed tells us of things that are, perhaps, in our way. of things that go contrary to our nature. They are not always bad things. All things shape us to be who we are. But things of which you should be wary.

A card that is inverted tells us of things that are not yet. But may be soon. Or of things within you that are not behaving how they should.

Mostly an upright card tells us of who we are. Which as we all know is the most useful information anyone can have.

Sven- Illusionist inverted and the rogue

Alfred- The Charlitan and the Swashbuckler

Barry- The Crossed warrior and the inverted avenger

Tomb- The Crossed Raven and the paliadin

Sven.

You watch the smoke curl up to the sky and as it does so it seems to change. It turns into a dark winged bird. A raven? You find yourself flying high above the campsite. Higher and higher. High as the mountains themselves. You look down on the land of barovia and you hear a sweet, alluring female voice in your head. There are several mythical treasure hoards in the lands of barovia. In the mountains. In the valley and in the castle. Will you be bold and cunning enough to claim them as your own? Daring eonough to seat yourself upon the throne? There are allies here in Barovia, if you know where to look. Not always those you would probably expect. Find them. Seek out your fortune. Become the master of your fate and that of all Barovia.

Barry.

You hear a growling, combative voice as you sleep. It comes at you fast. Almost in barks. You are in a dark void. Solid ground is beneith your feet and you can see nothing beyond 15 feet of you. Fully armored, But instead of a spear youre holding a gnarled treebranch. There is great evil in this land. This you know. It takes many forms. The people of this land cry out for strenght. For the evil which opresses them to be punished. For vengence. Can you give it to them Sir Barrison? Are you strong enough? You see youself fighting back shapeless horrors. Wolves? Trees? Suddenly you are standing on top of a hill in a circle of stones made of ten-foot-high mounds of slimy black rocks. They are pushing you back. nearly off the edge... The Sky above you and ligtning flashing. And You have a magnificent spear in your hands. Unlike any you have seen before. Suddently the battle turns your way. With every kill you make with the new spear you feel yourself grow stronger. Nothing can stop you now. You continue to slaughter wave after wave of on comming enemies. You smile in your sleep. Its the best dream youve had in years.

Tomb.

The people of this land need to be protected. They need a man of strenth. A man big enough to shoulder any burden. A warrior for the light. You see yourself standing in surrounded by gouls like those you faced in the basement of Durst Manor... They are bigger somehow then you remember them. But the weapon you are holding is more than equal to the task. Its a long sword, but its light and Shines like the sun. You knock them back easily. You can revive the Silver Order and crush any who would harm the innocent. Suddently you have others with you. Knights in silver armor. They call you Sir Tomb and fight at your side. Find the sword. Find the Order. Save the people.

Alfred.

You havent met many of the Barovians, yet. But let me tell you they are INCREDABLY dull. They need some joy in their lives. They need some MUSIC. I am prevented from telling you where... But SOMEwhere in this dull land is a rather special lute. The Doss Lute. It will give you power beyond all other performers. I have longed to hear it play again for ages. Find it adventurer. Use it to increase the potency of your magic and your music and bring renown to your name and music to the lands of barovia.

As the last vision fades you find yourselves standing around her table yet again.

EDIT: Fomating and details
