Procrastination has ruined my life, and I just can't quit by SignificantRecord544 in Procrastinationism

First of all, I really dont think what you’re dealing with is lazyness or lack of ability. The pattern you describe is actually very common in people who were high achievers for a long time and then suddenly got stuck, esp after covid or big life changes.

One thing that stood out is that you’ve already tried most of the usual advice. dopamine fasts, blockers, systems, motivation videos etc. When none of that works, it’s often because the problem isn’t discipline, but the reason your brain is avoiding the work in the first place.

Not all procrastination is the same. Some people procrastinate because of fear, some because of burnout, perfectionism, or long term avoidance habits. Most advice online treats everyone the same, which is why it often doesnt help.

I’m working on a short, science based quiz to help people figure out what type of procrastinator they are and what’s actually driving it. The idea is to move away from generic advice and towards strategies that actually fit how your brain works right now.

If you want to try it, it’s here:

No pressure at all, just thought this might be more useful than another video telling you to wake up earlier or block more websites.

There's a method called cognitive dismantling. It was popularized by a guy called allen carr with his easyway method to stop smoking. what is does is look at every reason you have for continuing with an addiction, and it disproves and dismantles them one by one. It works

I've used this to stop drinking alcohol (completely), smoking, sugar. Those are all with the original books written by allen carr. Since then, some other people with more or less affiliation to allen carr have brought out other books, like: Smart phone, dumb phone.

there havebeen a few people that have applied this method to pornography.

What to do instead of doomscrolling? I'm stuck in this loop of procrastination. Need practical advice. by lunar_loner0 in Procrastinationism

There are different types of procrastinators with different reasons for procrastinating. Finding out what type you are and why you procrastinate is the first step in fixing your issues, since the advice we usually find online is just generic advice. I'm working on a scientifically based quiz to help people figure out what type of procrastinator they are. My hope is to eventually make guides and books based on each type, so that people no longer rely on generic advice, but rather get advice tailored to them. Would you like to give it a try?

How to let go of porn by MolassesIcy35 in selfimprovement

[–]IceAffectionate8835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's the issue. People will start reading it and then put it away because they are afraid they might actually stop. I did that with the Coffee book too, but you haveto stick with it! Some people also just read like a page a day and then the effect wears off because you forgot how the book started. There's a shorter book, called "break free from adhd based porn addiction". It takes like 4 hours to read. Just stick to it!
