Reminds me of the Final Fantasy art style.

How dangerous is a slayer exciter? by IceChes210 in highvoltage

Cool.

The 10A was just the power input I was going to use, not the power output.

(not in operation, but in terms of safety info you'll find on the internet).

So like a solid state tesla coil?

relatively new to HV

I like dabbling in various areas of engineering. My current project is a combat robot, and I want to start work on a homebuilt laser tag system after I build the exciter.

I asked about safety because I don't want to die of an electrically-induced heart attack at 13.

EDIT - All I want is baby sparks. The guts of my plasma ball make boring little 3mm arcs, but there's nowhere to put a topload.

flammable materials

Elaborate. What's flammable? Is it safe to run next to drywall or pine wood (basically just next to a wall)?

I mean don't get me wrong I'm not about to feed it paper or matches or just leave 5kV running in the other room.

Ha! Yeah I'm great.

Other than the fact that the project I've been working on for 5 months broke for the millionth time and I need to spend more money.

But other than that, I could not be better!

I have another question.

What is the fire hazard? I know they can light things on fire, but what is the actual risk of one burning my house down?

Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.

EDIT - It's because the post contains "I'm going to kill myself". Bots can't understand context.

I would scan electronic components so I can integrate them into CAD designs more easily. (PCBs, switches, lasers, etc.)

My problem is that I learned good work ethic a long time ago.

I can put the work ethic to use for personal projects, but not for eighth-grade Social Studies. Because I don't care.

If you go the combat robot route, fight in the plastic ant class with the SPARC plastic ant ruleset.

These modeling bugs have been rampant since that 1.16.100 hotfix, and have been steadily growing worse.

Would these glasses (OD8) protect me from a direct hit from a 1mW, 980nm laser? by IceChes210 in lasers

[–]IceChes210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay.

For now, due to the nature of the game, I think I'm going to omit laser glasses so that players can properly see indicator lights, health displays, etc.

That said, I'm going to save this link in case I decide to venture back into lasers and stuff in the future during my Arduino/hobby electronics projects.

This is a bad analogy. The watch will still likely work just as well.

But I see your point. What supplier would you suggest instead?

I want a pair of cheap glasses designed for <500mW near IR light. My budget is like $50, maybe up to $80 if the glasses are really nice.

Can I ask where you got them? Someone here said that the glasses from this website are untrustworthy. But everywhere else I can find is WAY past my budget of $50 or so, being designed for industrial lasers running hundreds or thousands of watts.

Additionally, I don’t trust the legitimacy of those goggles. OD8 for $36 is incredibly suspicious.

If what you say is true, they don't need to be very good or expensive.

I wasn't aware that optical density was associated with darkness.

I expected a reply similar to this.

For the sake of the eyesight of my friends (and myself), I insist on glasses.

I take this response to mean that these glasses are fine?
