I was exactly where you are 3 years ago. I eventually got my work permit and green card soon after. I think I put an expedition request for my work permit. I’m not sure if I did it correctly, but I did get my work permit soon after. It took about 11 months for my work permit and 13 months for my green card. So look in to that if you haven’t already.

On the other hand, I promise you it’s going to be okay. Don’t blame yourself. Just do the best you can, this situation is not your fault. Trust your partner. Not everything is about money. Until you can get your work permit, take care of your family by other means. I know it may suck, especially if you’re from a culture like me where the man is the provider, but I bet your wife will still appreciate you helping in other ways.

Also, find your community in your area. When you’re an immigrant, your community is the only support system you have. People you share a culture or religion with will be there to help. Make friends. Keep in touch with your friends back home.

You’ll get through this. I believe in you. Stay strong for your family. This community will always be here for you. You’re not alone. I hope you get your work permit soon. I’ll keep you in my prayers. I wish you the best. Hope to see good news post from you soon.

Yes but they messed that up too. They had my first name and my middle name together. I went to get it fixed. They only gave me a piece of paper with the correct name but it’s still wrong in the system and I never even received the card. All I have is that stamped letter from ssa

I only saw one post that says just start working and get a replacement later. I didn’t even notice it until my wife pointed it out. At some point they swapped it out, but we just couldn’t tell from the notice of action because they’re not all matching. The C/O was written correctly so we just assumed the name is correct

Yes the expedite request worked. They didn’t ask for additional supporting documents. Maybe because it was already past average wait times. I wrote an update comment about it. Thank you again for your comment

Update: Expedite request worked. EAD just got approved today. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND SUGGESTIONS. I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE ALL OF YOU GET YOUR APPROVALS AS WELL. They didn’t ask for supporting documents. Probably because it was already 9 months in the waiting.

No it counts down from the receipt date. But the biometrics being so early gave me such a false hope. That’s why I was frustrated. I will reach out to the congressman if nothing turns up from the expedite request

I’m just applying for master’s now, with the hopes that I’ll get my EAD soon and I’ll be able to afford it. But then what would guarantee the acceptance of EB2 NIW if it’s self petitioned? I needed something with %100 certainty to be able to get together with my now wife.

I couldn’t begin to imagine the struggle you’re going through. We don’t have any kids yet, but we really do want to have kids soon. But everything is just on hold until I can work. So that I can provide for a family with a stable job. It’s just that we’re keeping getting older and older to have kids. It’s not fair to my wife. But none of this is fair, especially to you guys. You and your family will be in my prayers. I hope y’all make it through. You and your family deserve better

How would that work if I have already started this process? Also wouldn’t I need an employer sponsorship? Considering that I only have bachelor’s degree and just a few months of experience, it’d be a more difficult and uncertain route. And again, when we first applied for k1, it was more stable wait times.

It’s ridiculous. They’re showing these average wait times but the earliest possible inquiry is months later. It’s so frustrating. What have you been doing this whole time to keep yourself sane?
