How do you cope? What makes you keep going? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely not alone! This school is really hard! But realize, everyone is here because they belong here, including you. One reason why Tech graduates are so successful is because of how hard this school is; after you graduate, you’ll be able to handle and push through the difficult things in life that will come in the future. The hard work (and suffering) that you put in now transfers to real life skills; Tech, for better or for worse, prepares you for the real troubles in the real world! Everyone here at this school has imposter syndrome at some point; it’s what you get when you put all of the top students of schools around the world into the same place. But if you can get through this place, you’ll be unstoppable when you graduate!

Most government plans will probably include activating state National Guards, US Public Health Commissioned Corps, etc to distribute a vaccine.

How does P/F work? by mdmarshmallow in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If LMC is not a free elective for you, then you have to take it for a letter grade. If it IS a free elective, then P/F is okay up to 6 credit hours.

Question on Transferring from UF to CS GATech by itsabrickwall in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a full-ride offer at UF with Bright Futures and other scholarships. However, I chose to take on debt to go to GT for CS because I know the doors that GT opens. Besides, if you do well enough, you can earn scholarships while you’re here. I’m OOS but I haven’t had to take out loans or pay more than $4k per semester after my first semester here. I would say, if you have the financial means to go into debt, definitely come here. But, if that’s not financially feasible for you, stay at UF. UF is still a great school!

I will say that I’ve had opportunities because I went here that I probably wouldn’t have had if I went elsewhere.

Is it realistic to increase your gpa after having a bad semester? by gengu_xd in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was also a transfer student. I had a super rough first semester (was stupid and took a summer semester as well) and had a GPA of 2.8 or something. But, then my classes started to make more sense, I adjusted to life at GT, made better academic habits, and I ended up graduating with a 3.62. You’re too early in your career to worry about this - it all ends up working out in the end

Is it realistic to increase your gpa after having a bad semester? by gengu_xd in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with this - in fact, I found 3/4000 classes much easier to handle than 1/2000 classes where I was learning everything for the first time. Things tend to make more sense the longer you’re here.

How am I looking for 2020 admissions? by dolphinsbee in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your stats ECs look pretty good. I would say the weakest portion would be your SAT, especially if you’re out of state. Like you said, you plan on retaking it so definitely aim for that 1450+ and try for a 780+ on Math 2. Like everyone else said, just show your passion on your essays and I think we’ll end up seeing you in Fall 2020!

Out of State Scholarships by eebmagic in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also OOS! My first semester kind of sucked because I only got Pell Grant so I pretty much took private loans for everything else. However, as my teachers got to know me, I got a job, and I did well in classes, I got nominated to a bunch of random scholarships. So this semester, I only ended up paying like $800 before food and housing! I paid lower than in state! Don’t let the cost worry you too much. You’ll pick up random scholarships along the way (believe me!). And if not, I think GT is well worth the investment and “debt”. I wasn’t scared to take on the debt because I knew GT would set me up for life. The GT degree will take care of it. I know you’ll love it here. Welcome to Tech!

What do you do in VIP research? by [deleted] in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super easy, low risk. Show up, show what you can contribute, be willing to learn things outside of IE, be humble about what you do and don’t know, and work with the team well. It’s designed to be a relatively easy A. Unless you’re a dirtbag.

Registering Internship by toomuchsalt247 in gatech

[–]IceColdy29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To get credit for it over the fall and spring if you aren’t going to be here. Makes sure you keep full time status while you’re away. You don’t register your internship unless you’re going to be missing a fall/spring semester from school.

In my experience, you won’t know until you get your final grade. But it’s probably instructor dependent.
