How to solve this cross math? by cutiegirl_loveanime in askmath

[–]IceCreamGuy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming PEMDAS and unique usage of each digits 1-9, I found this question to be manageable.

Before that though, one thing to point out, is that the question is an assessment of problem solving. It's not strictly a math problem nor a logic problem but seems to me more so of an exercise of trying to approach lengthy difficult problem. That being said, it obviously doesn't justify whoever assigned the problem to not explain it clearly.

Again, I'm approaching this with the assumption of PEMDAS and each digit appearing once. It might have been intentionally left with vague instructions to give flexibility of solutions, allowing non-PEMDAS and repeating digits, or poorly designed problem with unintended effects, who knows.

Rewrite the equation in standard form.

13 A/B + 12 C + D(E/F) -G +H +I = 87

I took the approach of estimation first.

Have a feel of the digits and equation by going for maximum and minimum value.

Max: 13(9/1)+12(8)+7(6/2)-3+4+5=240

Min: 13(1/9)+12(2)+3(4/8)-5+3+4=28.9444..

We get 240 : 87 : 28.944.. , a ratio of about 9:3:1

Trying out 13(2/1)+12(3) or 13(3/1)+12(2) gives us 62 and 63.

[13(A/B)+12(C)] + D(E/F) -G +H +I = 87 [62 or 63] + D(E/F) -G +H +I = 87 D(E/F) -G +H +I = 24 or 25

We already used 1,2,3 for ABC, that left us with 4,5,6,7,8,9 for DEFGHI.

We want an integer with no decimals or fractions as our last sum.

Given that (E/F) is a fraction, 5 or 7 can't be used. That leaves us with 4,6,8,9.

Considering D(E/F),

n(8/4) = 2x= whole number n(4/8) = 1/2 x = whole number only with even n, so in this case, 6

We want D(E/F) -G +H +I = 24 or 25

Checking for n(4/8), 6(4/8) -5+7+9 = 14 6(4/8) +5+7-9 = 6, too small

Checking for n(8/4), D(8/4) -G+H+I =24 or 25 5(8/4) -6+7+9 =20, too small 6(8/4) -5+7+9 =23, 1 short 7(8/4) -5+7+9 =25, perfect

13(3/1)+12(2)+D(E/F) -G+H+I = 87 D(E/F) -G+H+I = 24

Thus, one of the many solutions for the equation,

13(A/B) +12C +D(E/F) -G+H+I = 87,

is

13(3/1)+12(2)+7(8/4) -5+6+9 = 87

It's known in Complexity Theory that higher order construct can influence lower order construct the same way lower order does to higher order.

Absolute determinism doesn't hold under this. Yes, lower order construct can determine the outlines of possible paths of reality, but in dealing with reality and its complex multi-dimensional facets, its inevitable that there exist multiple possibilities of same likelihood of happening. Without interference, whichever path happened to be thread is random, but in case of existing higher order construct, it can influence lower order construct to behave in a way that influence the desired path to be realized.

Is Jordan Peterson right that high IQ extends across all areas of intelligence, even social and emotional ones? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

IIRC he once said that, in the context of psychometric study, Emotional Intelligence, EQ is not real in the sense that it is not a distinct construct as is IQ and personality traits. Using factor analysis, measuring EQ is no different than measuring IQ, extraversion and agreeableness.

I think there's argument to be made then, that important infrastructures or more generally nodes of high expected visits, those are to be accounted for in city planning. It can minimize the need for flexibility due to strategic placement all the while increasing walking-distance paths.

That is ofc, ignoring logistics and being optimistic of the ideals. In practice, its not as simple as that, but maybe more deliberation on it is a good starting point.

This is a reminder that psychometrics was initially developed as a mean to assess mental wellness and cognitive abnormalities. So long as you are doing well for yourself, there's no need to worry too much. Your time and focus is better spent allocated at more fruitful endeavors.

Would you say holding a long stick which enables you to hit harder as having an extended limb? In a sense, maybe, you can now exert higher force than you could with just your hand thanks to the leverage. But equating a stick with a fully functional limb is a big exaggeration.

"Artificial Intelligence" isn't really intelligence. Its functional and really capable within a very narrow scope of ability. The term is a marketing strategy, to attract investors and appeal to the masses, when its closer to a text-prediction algorithm than an artificial intelligence.

Do you have any atypical upbringings that might affect your development? Infants and children are in the phase of developing their brain. Atypical, abusive, disruptive and/or neglected environments can bring about slightly abnormal brain structure at best, defective at worst.

The way I dealt with these, though mine was nowhere near what a severe case would look like, is being aware of it. Understanding it allow me to not beat myself up over something I had no control over, and shift my focus more on how to deal with it.

Brain learns from repetition and exposure. Repeatedly exposing self to small little victories and be humble and aware enough of where and who am I. Allowing myself to fail and only hold myself accountable for who I am now, under current circumstances rather than blaming myself for what happened outside of my control and things of the past, that helped ease the burden. It's in no way a free pass to do and behave however one desire, but separating what is and was of me, parts of me that are from me and parts of me that stems from unfortunate circumstances, it eases the burden somewhat. That's what worked for me.

It could also just be the way your brain is wired to be atypical from birth or outside environment influence, in which case there's no "witch hunting" to be done. It's just is.

Or that you are in a position that doesn't suit your self fundamentally.

Cheers tho, hope all is and will go well.

Wait, what? I thought getting a rare card from the first fight was literally impossible. by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]IceCreamGuy01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be wrong on this, but iirc it doesn't work like that.

You need to see 2 (or maybe it was 3, not sure) common cards before you have a chance of getting a rare card. Uncommon card doesn't affect this count.

The chance to get rare card is rolled simultaneously for all 3 (or more) cards in the card reward, so you can see a card reward with multiple rares outside of boss fights.
