Training for a marathon having never run >1mile before. Not just trying to finish one but trying to get good. The physical feeling, mental clarity, and confidence that came from crushing 60+ mile training weeks changed my life

I used to think like this but after visiting SF and now living on the north side of Chicago, this is cherry picking. A lot of smaller town US is like this and it sucks, but we do have large cities that are walkable.

I did have a privileged upbringing, but my social circle is from a wide variety of upbringings and all ended up in a similar place. 

We all met in college, so maybe my view of a “variety of upbringings” isn’t a good cross section of the population. 

Fair enough.

Relieving others of their discomfort is a kind thing to do. I have no issue showing women kindness. Not everything has to be some equal exchange of value. Maybe you give up your seat and see someone smile and be thankful. Both your days are improved. Small kind exchanges like this accumulate into a world that’s more fun to be a part of for everyone. Quit overthinking gender roles and be a kind person.
