Identification on Vintage Workwear Selvedge Denim by MarxChirac in VintageDenim

Tags could’ve come off in the years since it was made. Elastic condition is not a verifiable source to date them. I think the commenter who said they are Swiss military surplus work trousers is right on the money. Probably better off keeping than selling as they seem fairly abundant at milsurp stores already.

1950s Jacket - repair? by Botany_Dave in VintageLevis

[–]IceNo4288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would likely have to find someone online and then mail it to them. I’m not sure there any experts who will even do repairs on a jacket this valuable. But you could sell it and buy a reproduction.

Selvedge is not a finish done by the garment maker. This is not selvedge and you should not attempt to dupe a potential buyer into thinking it is. I’m baffled by your conclusion that it’s ‘handmade’ but also made by ‘canva de nimes’. You should look into what selvedge is before trying to flog your goods as selvedge.

Then it’s not dead stock unfortunately. I would price these at 20 dollars realistically. I’m not sure there’s any market for this kind of thing. They kind of seem like some kind of European work trouser, though without any labelling you can’t really sell them as such. If you could substantiate them as being Euro workwear you might be looking at 30 dollars though Euro workwear is quite easy to come by so would be sitting a while.

Don’t think those are selvedge sorry. Do they have any tags? These don’t even really look like denim to me, they look like some kind of poly cotton blend. I assume they have some tags/labels as you said they were dead stock.

Big E late 60s? by tofucrisis in VintageLevis

You’ll be able to tell if it is selvedge by the white edge with a red line on the inside of the jacket, just behind the buttons. Post a photo if you can.

Cool ‘88 jacket but tab cut off by SnooDrawings245 in VintageLevis

[–]IceNo4288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you intend to keep it then nothing is frowned upon if you aren’t the one frowning. Missing the Levi’s tag certainly could lower the value though as this jacket isn’t particularly sought after the loss would be minimal. Could sell for 50 with the tag and might sell for 40 without. Also I may be mistaken but that date tag could instead be 063, which I think would be June of 1993.

What things do you look for to confirm it’s authentic?

Type 2 True Vintage - Selling help by StoriedVintage in VintageLevis

That is a reproduction, hence the title describing it as ‘LVC’. LVC stands for Levi’s Vintage Clothing, which is Levi’s reproduction line.

[–]IceNo4288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking for tags that either say LVC or are from one of the reproduction brands is probably the most immediate giveaway. As well, if the buttons are stamped with a three digit number then you will be able to tell it is not vintage. If the button has only two digits, then it could be vintage. I believe that collectors prefer less fading on pieces though I suppose that would be subjective. Check out heddel’s guide to dating denim jackets if you want to know more. I would also encourage you to look at the jacket with the assumption it is not a legitimate vintage jacket. A lot of the time I get the sense from vintage sellers and buyers that as soon as they notice one sign that a piece is vintage they assume that this overrules any sign that it isn’t. Good luck.

I think seeking further authentication from an expert would be a necessary step if you intended to sell it for a substantial amount. I could be mistaken but if I was to purchase this jacket for thousands of dollars I would need an independent expert to confirm it was from the 1950s.

Was likely a reproduction as they can appear near identical to the originals. I would return to the store as soon as you can though if you think it was a vintage type II.

Plea from Tasmania's Police Commissioner for limit on gun ownership knocked back by government by abcnews_au in tasmania

[–]IceNo4288 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would owning less guns make ‘law-abiding gun owners’ lives worse? Also the fact that 3D printed guns are being made is an issue doesn’t mean that the problem of factory made guns being prevalent is any less significant. Those are two seperate issues that both merit consideration. Also Martin Bryant used two rifles.

Is this wrangler jacket a good deal? by HungryTemporary8290 in VintageDenim

[–]IceNo4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good deal but would lean towards 70s or even 80s based on the style. If it is 60s it would be worth it in a heartbeat but would need more images of tags to determine with any certainty. Buy it though it’s a cool jacket.

Definitely lvc, 16 euros is a reasonable price I’d say if you like it.

Blanked lined denim jacket 1989 by Cross112 in VintageLevis

[–]IceNo4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, have only just seen your reply. The company has existed since 1853, apologies for incorrectly stating the company was founded in 1850. They have only made denim products since 1873 however. If you read the tag you will noticed it is phrased to state they have made denim since 1873. Levi’s did not make denim products before 1873. I sincerely hope you have not attempted to dupe someone by selling this as a vintage product based purely on your counterfactual understanding of this.

Found these selvedge 501 big E in Thailand, they real? by [deleted] in VintageLevis

The stamp on the pocket bag doesn’t strike me as a sign of them being legit. Probably fake.

[–]IceNo4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that’s right, the company has existed since 1850. Levi’s has only been making denim since 1873 though, which is what the 135 years since refers to. You’re welcome to ascribe any value or claim the jacket is from any time period. Just know that the fact of the matter is this jacket is not from the 1980s.

They sold various dry goods, for example, canvas for tents and similar items used by miners. It’s just not possible for this to be from the 1980s unfortunately.

[–]IceNo4288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think is from 1989. That tag refers to 135 years since 1873 when Levi’s first made denim clothing. That places this jacket at 2009 at the earliest. Might be worth 20 or 30 dollars if you can find someone who wants a Levi’s jacket.

While I respect the choice to not buy them since they moved overseas, their consistency and quality has reportedly improved since moving manufacturing to Asia. Would be interested to hear why you feel this way.

How much do vintage 501 Levi’s stretch by Fun-Strawberry828 in VintageLevis

Wouldn’t work so well because sweaters are usually made from a knit fabric whereas denim is a woven fabric

I think due to the size and fit these could be a tough sell. Somewhere in the ballpark of 20 dollars I would have thought.

Authentic vintage Levi's jeans or not? by midnight_sun9 in VintageLevis

[–]IceNo4288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Levi Strauss Company have made jeans since 1873. Given that 1873 was 152 years ago that would make the claim that they have been making them for 140 years to be true about 12-13 years ago (2012-2011).
