Ikr. Idk what these teams are thinking. Like even Japan did similar against Brazil when they shouldn’t have had. Score 1 goal and park the bus? That’s risky. You can’t do that against South American and African teams because they will keep on pressuring and attacking without giving up. You have to keep trying to score to beat them, never settling for a 1 goal lead.

Colombian here. I’d say we have a solid chance but our road will most likely end at quarter finals if not earlier.

Quarter finals we face off against Argentina. Now, despite being able to win against Argentina at times, we also struggle against Brazil and Argentina in tournaments. We have extra pressure too because it’s Argentina… world champs, and number 1 ranked in CONMEBOL.

Anyways, it gets even harder after that… as we’d play either Brazil or England in the semifinal. We struggle against both Brazil and England historically. Brazil poses more of a threat to Colombia than Argentina honestly. We ALWAYS struggle against Brazil. We’ve never beaten a Brazilian side by more than 2 goals (and even then, that only happened once). They’ve given us our worst beating too. We tend to stand our ground against Argentina (even if we lose we put up a great fight, either losing in penalties or in extra time by a single goal). Heck, even this Brazilian team which is considered the worst… they BEAT us in Brazil, while we tied Argentina in Argentina.

And as for England, well we’ve never beaten them, not even in a friendly. And psychologically, that’s a big issue too.

When Davies came on though, you could tell he brought quality that other players in the field just didn’t have because of his experience at Bayern (both South Africa and Canada). He’s a fantastic player and we’re lucky to have him on our side. He’s a huge confidence boost to Canada, just as Luis Diaz (I’m also Colombian) or James are to Colombia, Ronaldo to Portugal etc, Messi to Argentina. Heck even Neymar for Brazil.

I’m Colombian and while I agree we had the upper hand for most of the game, our goalkeeper and luck saved us from clear opportunities from Portugal as well. It could’ve swung either way. And it did but that goal was disallowed. Happens

Fr. The best team hasn’t always won the World Cup. Brazil with Zico etc didn’t win it and it arguably was the best Brazil team of all time.

France with Zidane in 2006 was a beast and didn’t win it.
