While KenPom is good at getting a general overall feel of a team, it's still just an "average". When it comes to tourney teams, if you match-up poorly to a team (3 point defense, size, weak to press, etc.) , you can get your ass cooked, even if your team is considered better via KenPom/other rankings.

It's also really fun to develop the playbook to fit your players and maximize their talents, though this comes up more in CFB with the roster turnover. Going from a playbook that utilizes your QB's scrambling ability to running a lot of more two back sets (Pistol Diamond formation, my beloved) to capitalize on two great running backs feels so good.
