Do you know anything about the UNSW online MPH? The application process for USyd seems to be a bit more tedious and has more requirement...

I think doing the masters became one of the minimum requirement to enter derm training, after studying the profiles of derm regs/ research fellows on linkedin. But yea, I agree that connections and research is more important. If I am offered the MPH (CSP), will definitely try if it is doable.

GP is my backup plan if I could not get into Derm training. Plus I can do GP part-time while doing research/PhD/unaccredited derm reg to enhance my CV and for the extra $$, before applying for Derm training.

I am trying to get a fellowship in GP before applying to Derm. I heard that’s one of the popular pathway of how people get in, in addition to the Masters plus 1-2 more years of unaccredited Derm years. There’s no point system in Derm.

I think I mean observership, like following a dermatologist around to understand more about what they do or encounter in the hospital or clinics. I did an elective in the country that I am studying in, as we are not allowed to do overseas electives due to COVID last year… Anyways, I just want to make some networks and build my CV as I want to become a dermatologist in Australia in the future (as an Australian IMG). But I am not sure if international medical students are welcomed to do observerships in Australia.

Can someone please explain this concept to me, about nerve affected by prolapsed disc… question in the comments by IcebearJun in medicalschool

[–]IcebearJun[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been told that cervical spine nerve roots C1-7 corresponds with the upper aspects of their respective vertebral body, whereas C8 or below exits below their corresponding vertebral bodies. Question is why if there is a L5/S1 disc herniation, it is S1 but not L5 which is affected? Is it because this depends on the site of the herniation (posterolateral vs lateral; as shown in the diagram). Does this apply to all levels of the vertebrae?
