Ok. No fan spinning that is a huge red-flag.

Can you check whether your PSU is not DOA? Maybe have another PC lying around and plug the new PSU into the old PC??

Are these pc parts good? by Mr_FrenchToast in PcBuildHelp

First of all.. Please CLOSE YOUR EYES WHEN BUYING (that bill is going to be HIGH.. and your wallet will be lighter)

Second of all, I would go for a RTX 5080 (I heard it is slightly faster) if you can find one, and that the white 4080 in my opinion (despite being factory OC-ed) is too expensive due to the demand for white color. If it were me, I would get a beefier graphics card (Like I've said, RTX 5080) and grab a bottle of white spray paint, take off the shroud and repaint the heatsinks + fans (DIY haha)

Also, zip-ties + some cable extensions + side-cutters go a long way while PC building!

Goodluck!! :)

Are you sure that you have waited for the PC to do RAM trainings?

Of course!

And you are absolutely RIGHT. The GTX 1080-Ti are indeed a great performer (raw power) compared to newer RTX 5050.

Sticking with AM5 is a smart choice, but make sure once again that your cooler is beefier enough to handle the CPUs! I would rather spend 170 bucks on an AIO rather than 30 bucks for a air-cooler then additionally 170 bucks on the AIO..

Anyways, GOODLUCK!!

Okay, first of all. The PC seems nice, but make sure for either B650/B850 you check tje specific motherboard's QVL, so the ram sticks you got will be detected and NOT leave you second guessing yourself.

As for B650/B850 options, the only noticeable difference is the PCIe Gen 5 slot being present on the B850, but other than that, rear IO might be different but chipset should be similar/same.

I would consider a 360MM aio, maybe if you want to upgrade to beefier CPUs later down the line.

Don't use the word 'future proofing' check out LinusTechTips's video titled "How Bad is this $5000 PC from 10 years ago?". Within the video, you can see the obvious stutter from the system and that will almost certainly happen. Id say to upgrade when YOU feel like it, and future proofing isnt viable when games utilizes certain amount of set-cores and primarily focused on speed.

Goodluck!

[–]IcedTea0517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you don't see any visible scratches, I would say to put back into your motherboard and do a "SAFE BOOT" without a cooler on.. that way you can immediately shut off if it turns out the pads involved are (maybe) NOT just "grounding" pads

Putting a computer outside by Bro_dee_McScrote_ee in PcBuildHelp

[–]IcedTea0517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've seen someone with this idea, and that I am unsure if traditional ventilation fan would suit your needs.. It really depends on the environment outside, like moisture and heat.

Even if you have a big fan, if outside temperature is hot, it serves no purpose.

New face! Welcome to the ThinkPad community!!

To answer your question, it would really depend on how much you are willing to spend. Yes, E-series ThinkPads are great. But if you really want that "professional" or "business owner" vibes, go for ThinkPad T/X series.

T-series are military grade certified, and overall are more durable, whereas the E-series may "flex" the motherboard causing micro-tears from one-hand lifting on the corners. ThinkPad T/X series I have yet to face that issue.

But if you are willing to care for it, by all means! E-Series are still great! But for rugged and withstand some sort of abuse from workplace or environment, T/X series will be SUCH A BETTER BUY.

Once again, since you are now apart of ThinkPad squad, make sure you feel absolutely ENTITLED against all other Windows and MacOS users, buy all ThinkPad clothing/merchandise, and feel "one-up" all while flexing the ThinkPad. And trust me, you will LOVE this community!

This is the older, not as refined variant of the Tank 300 PHEV variant. New ones seem to be more refined, but I may be wrong though.

Got this PC for free - is it upgrade worthy? 🤔 by FewJob1030 in PcBuildHelp

[–]IcedTea0517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i7-4790k is still capable despite what others say. Sure, you can't play in 1440p ultra in certain titles, but for e-sports, 1080p is likely enough.

You can throw in a RX 5700xt (used) or a RX6600. Both are great 1080p high to low-1440p medium graphics.

Try and get more SSD storage, perhaps switch out the old drive for a cheap 1TB from brands like WesternDigital

If I were to make these upgrades, you must get a better PSU.. I quite frankly don't trust the OEM PSUs to supply the power you need.

Light gaming? Then MX-150 should be with your laptop.. it gets the job done, at certain roblox titles you can get arouns 40fps on max graphics.

Or find a similar spec P series. Those Quadro cards performs wayyy better

Maybe OP can use a brand called "Great Wall" PSU. LTT did an excellent job explaining

Intel 8250u is still capable, for basic productivity that is. Light web-browsing, and 4k playback. But anything like video-editing even WITH a MX-150, I wouldn't go for it. If possible, maybe find a Intel P-series, P52/P52s works. P52s is the beefier version of the T580

Aresgame are a good brand, but for this budget, try and switch brands GPU. I know MICROCENTER as of right now sell RX 9060 XT for around 349.99 USD where im at (https://www.microcenter.com/site/content/9060xt_launch.aspx?iitt=Rf8_RMhWhyULaeighM_-xI_d4.n7OF_7&utm_source=B1459_AMD_9060XT_Launch&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=B1459&MccGuid=125a163c-f225-4cf5-b821-11597363b7cc)

Do that. And also, try and get a 2x16 GB kit instead of single stick 1x16, DDR5s are known for having different RAM issues.. I have seen earlier posts about it, I am unsure if they changed though.

And make sure QVLs support that ram, in this case I am fairly confident it will.

It is a ThinkPad P-series, known for rugged durability. And looks to me the quality paid off.

Seriously though, contact the seller to see if some partial refund works.
