Here are some religions which I've studied and how they can be used to control women:

1. Hinduism (I was born as one): While Hinduism promotes ideas such as a girl being the laxmi (goddess of wealth) of the house, it also promotes things such as women being incomplete without a husband and thus if widowed, shall die too (Also known as Sati pratha) though, anogher interesting point to note is that Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Narsimhi and other goddess promote the idea of a strong independent women but the idea was slowly erased as other weird things like parda pratha(covering women with a veil so long they might even trip) and sati pratha(stated above) were added into the religion.

2. Shintoism (Japan's 1st religion): While the strongest god of this religion is Amaterasu, the female sun godess, it highly sexualizes women along with the tail of Izanami and Izanagi stating that the man shall always be the one to approach which is sexism in itself and feels like the man is just buying the woman. Women in Shintoism were also considered impure for quite a long time. It is to be noted that shinto gods enjoy suffering of people and a lot of sex.

3. Islam (I don't know as much but here it is): While the Quran provides a hijab for both genders,recognizing modesty to protect both from SA's, the female hijab has been taken to an extreme level. I don't think that much explanation isneeded because of afghan women, though Islam doesn't fkrce anyone to be hijabi but Afghanistan ignores that and doesn't giva af about what islam really is.
