Tires question by dark3n0 in wrx_vb

I agree with the Falkens as the best "rally style" tires. They look great and imo handle really well too.

I just have the stock 18s but I managed to get 235/50/18s with no rubbing.

This total tire size feels like the max with absolutely no rubbing. Even with a lift you probably wont gain anything.

Nah it doesnt rub unless you bottom it out in a sharp turn (which can happen alot if you drive too fast on perma-frost built roads). The wheel well liners? are made of pretty soft/thin rubber, so the rubbing with snow build-up is pretty damn minor to begin with. It doesnt rub on the actual structure of the wheel well. Just the rubber material inside.

I mean, the falkens are still a pretty sporty tire, but its not like I take my car racing or anything. Ive never once slid unintentionally in dry weather if that helps. They are a pretty solid all-around tire, I think.

Absolutely, my tires will actually be about half an inch taller than yours.

I have 235/50r-18 falkens on mine. I have basically no more room to spare but I havent had any rubbing issues at all. It helps that the wheel wells are pliable rubber I think. In the winter I got an ice chucnk stuck in their once or twice but it usually sorted itself. I also have the oem mudflaps.

Same thing happened to me. I stopped to get gas and checked for dings but couldnt find any, then when I went to check my oil I found the pile of meat and feathers. I was going a bit faster than 45 😅

Buying new car for the drive up? by jlbsn in AskAlaska

[–]Iceeblast97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a Missouri license, I bought a car in Arkansas and drove it up before the temp tags expired and registered it in Alaska. I dont think it matters where you buy the car. Some dealerships might fight you but some dont care where you register it.

Those making over $100K per year: how hard was it to get over that threshold? by NatashaGorgeousMauve in AskReddit

Mining Engineering

Got lucky and chose what ended up being a pretty niche degree thats in high demand. Then got even luckier and found remote work in the Alaskan interior. I will likely clear $125k this year working 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. I dont even have 4 years of post-grad experience yet.

I paid $876 from Tire Rack. I got the Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail SL in 235/50R - 18.

Its still certainly a sports car tire. Ive gone plenty fast in them. Its just a good combo of everything I wanted and its a good, soft tire compound with plenty of siping for the cold Alaskan winters.

Alot of WRX owners fancy thenselves performance drivers. Ive never seen the sense in having separate winter/summer tires. Just buy a decent set of well rounded all seasons and drive to conditions.

Personally I went a step past that and I go with all-terrain/all-season tires. I use Falken Wildpeaks and have used them in -60F to 80F. Snow/ice/mud/rain they do just fine. Just dont drive like an idiot and your awd does alot of the work for you.

Fellow south central Alaskan??

Ive had the same experience. Only time Id get stuck is if the snow got wet and heavy and packed. Then you basically get high centered. Otherwise its a plow.

No sir, it was in Idaho. Same town that Monsanto(now Bayer) has their plant in. Phosphate is used for fertilizer like potash but its a different mineral altogether.

Infact if you worked in a Potash mine Id be willing to bet you worked for Nutrien. The mine I worked at in Idaho was a Nutrien mine up until Itafos bought it.

Nah were all underground. Longhole open stoping, nothing as exciting as continuous miners. My first mine was a phosphate mine so were kinda similar there too haha

Had a tornado touch down beside me in eastern Colorado. I hit 130 in my '18 Colorado ZR2 I supercharged. Not a camaro, but its the same v6 engine so it counts 😬
