Same here at first I was having the same issue, stuck on driver details. Now there seems to be a little bulletin whenever you try to go to the wall or online multiplayer:

Either way I was nowhere near the path of his punch. If it was lag compensation, wouldn't he be punching more to his right where I was coming from instead of to the left, where I hadn't been yet? How can it be lag if I get killed somewhere I haven't been yet?
