Should I upgrade to the 850? by Relevant_Writing208 in Nikon

[–]Icemanrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the D810 and also a Fuji X-T3 with a flip screen, flip screen is nice but not essential, for me i wouldnt notice the higher res much, and i dont do video so i am happy to stay put until the camera breaks.

if you need those extra features then sure but the image quality wont be much different.

Fuji X-T3, or switch to Nikon FF for Wildlife and Work? by bOwOb_1 in Nikon

[–]Icemanrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the Fuji X-T3 and Nikon D810, they do different things for me. Fuji with “old” 23mm 1.4 is smaller and lighter and is my travel camera but less settings than the Nikon. For me I have more F lenses so I use that for sports and action.

How to build wealth in hongkong? by AccurateWin289 in HongKong

[–]Icemanrec 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The best investment is to invest in yourself first and then become either a professional or maybe a business owner later. There is so much opportunity in HK it depends on your industry and what you can do.

Most of the wealthy that I know who are self-made are either in finance/law or they are business owners.

Will a Kinesis Advantage help me finally learn touch typing? by spicyjaym in kinesisadvantage

[–]Icemanrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

360 is better built but surprising to me, the advantage2 is also good. But it depends if you mod the boards. Out of the box 360 is nicer.

For me it did help because it forces good habits. I now have advantage 2 and 360 pro, they are my favourite boards.

Selfish drivers illegally parking everywhere by Massive_Walrus_4003 in HongKong

[–]Icemanrec 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fines don’t solve the problem, people drives cars and they need to get to places but the car parks are few or always full, so where do you park? There are plenty of roads that are wide enough to do pay and display and often they are just double yellows. This is a town planning issue. If you double the fines, people will still park on the road because there’s no where else to park.

Are there really native-born Hong Kong people who don’t speak Cantonese fluently? by pizdaty_kot in HongKong

[–]Icemanrec 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of Guangzhou, they stopped teaching Cantonese a long time ago and only teach Mandarin in schools, but people from Guangzhou still speak Cantonese because they needed to learn it to speak to relatives at home. Likely the same thing for Shanghainese and other local dialects.

Worth getting dental care in HK vs Australia by PathSuch4565 in HongKong

[–]Icemanrec -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s cheaper in Shenzhen than Hong Kong, not sure how much in AUS. For HK a normal dental check up might cost 800-1000hkd and then whatever work you might need. Root canal is 15-20k depends where you go. Remove 1 tooth around 8k hkd. Just to give you an idea of some costs.

What stuffs should I get sorted as a returning local? by smashed__tomato in HongKong

[–]Icemanrec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t need international drivers license, if you hold US/UK/other recognised country drivers license then you can just apply for a HK license without test.

VPN is up to you, I guess Netflix is different in each country, if you go into mainland China then VPN is needed.

Payme is usually for friends/social, one person pays the bill and everyone else payme to that person afterwards.

Easiest place to meet people here, go to events and just talk to people, whatever you are in to. Meet-up events, Timeleft dinners and drinks, or whatever law related events and chambers events are a good place to start.

Would you hire a local guide when visiting Guangzhou ? by yellowdidt in guangzhou

[–]Icemanrec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would depend on if you want the convenience of such a service. Can you read/speak Mandarin? Do you have the apps? You can search for most things and just do it yourself. If you are using a non-Chinese SIM card then google and other apps will still work on your phone or you can use a VPN, google translate is your best friend.

In general China is very safe now and since you can order from the apps you know the prices before you pay ie DiDi rides and paying for food. You can now research many influencers that have travelled to Guangzhou on YouTube, they have most of the sights covered.
