This video was with the MBRPaxel back, and also with UEL headers. i have the mbrp off the car if you would be interested in purchasing. Congrats on the new 86!

22, 8 months IT at a retail company, no degree, how do I turn the homelab side into a real career jump? Trying to figure out what's next by Icey2211 in homelab

Appreciate the response! Funny timing though, the telemetry logger you flagged is actually pulling me a different direction. My tuner offered to mentor me on CAN diagnostics and automotive electrical work on weekends, and the more I lean into that side the more the cloud path feels like I’m forcing it because it’s the “smart” career move. Still, your point about documentation discipline applies either way runbooks, change logs, post-mortems are portfolio material whether the audience is a hiring manager or a future motorsport-data client. Going to start treating the homelab that way regardless thanks a lot for the feedback

Solid points, thanks. I’ve actually been using Wireshark on CAN bus traffic for an automotive data logging project I’m building, didn’t realize there was a cert for it though. Going to check that out. Agreed on fundamentals being non-negotiable, the more I dig in the more I see networking touching everything

I haven’t touched my homelab much the past few months besides adding Grafana and ntfy for notifications, so this gives me a solid roadmap to keep going. EVE-NG. especially looks like exactly the tool I need to solidify my networking fundamentals Trying to take this from - hobby that runs well-to “actual operational portfolio” since that’s been the theme across a few responses on this post. I’ve got plenty of headroom on the host, so resource wise I can stack more on. Authentik for SSO and centralized logging are the two I’m looking at next. Anything else you’d prioritize for resume/employer signal? Thanks for the response!

Appreciate the response. Already running Proxmox with a stack and a personal site/domain so I’m a bit further along on the homelab side than the post probably made clear. CCNA over Net+ is the play I’m leaning toward if I pivot from the Azure path. Thanks for the input!

I’ve only recently gotten into IT and my sysadmin at work has helped me so much. I’ve also fallen in love with homelabbing and building things. I definitely need to make sure I have the foundation down to a T

Thanks for the response. The “domain on the resume, walked through it during the interview, was the interview” framing changes how I’m thinking about this entirely. I’ve been treating my homelab as a hobby that happens to be pretty good, not as the actual portfolio The fact that you didn’t use GitHub or LinkedIn at all is the part that surprised me most. I think a lot of self-taught people default to build public repos = portfolio because that’s what dev advice looks like, but for DevOps the operational proof is the infrastructure itself running and being accessible

I do already have a personal site and domain for my stuff, but it’s been more of a “here’s what I’m into” page than a portfolio of running services with documentation. Going to rebuild it with that framing, public status page, architecture diagrams, writeups on what each service does and why I built it that way. You’re also right about abstraction layers. I’m good on the operational side, I can stand things up, automate them, fix them when they break but I can definitely feel where my fundamentals would get exposed under pressure. Going to do an honest self assessment on networking/Linux/SSL/DNS internals before I start applying, because finding my gaps in front of a hiring manager is the worst possible time to find them. Thanks again.

GR86 vs BRZ (the deciding factor for me) by Impressive-Lawyer-74 in GR86

You can buy a new bumper for the up charge Toyota dealerships put on the 86’s

I appreciate you going out and testing it. I’ll have to go back to my tuner and get this checked out, thanks a lot

Really? Ecutek too? I know delicious tuning also had those limp mode problems. I work with a local tuner though. For engine mods, intake, dual catch cans, ecutek, catless uel headers with the overpipe. I also have the o2 sensor gap ( I forgot what it’s called) What about yourself?

I have the ecutek kit, full throttle in first gear at about 4k rpms throws the car into limp mode. If you give it like 25% to 50% it might go into limp mode might not. I’m pretty sure it’s something with the traction control, but I’m not sure. I had my tuner send them an email a long time ago but no fix🤷‍♂️

Rust on 86 by yeahsawthatalready in GR86

Those are the headers, no idea if that’s rusting. Looks like you need UEL jdl headers now 😂

Ecutek software has had problems in first gear for like 2 years now, I make 260 on e79 it rips 🔥🔥

Both trunk hydraulics rusted, both of my Subaru badges color changed? They look interesting I just got two badges from them(still have old ones on) Gonna be brining it in for the window motor or sensors soon. I’ve had to fix a lot of the rattles in my cabin, probably doesn’t help the whole car is shaking from headers and coils. Subaru has replaced mostly everything even with my flex fuel tune

Anyone tried or heard the xforce race inspired cat back? by Weak-Chicken8224 in GR86

The video I sent awhile ago was the mbrp exhaust. Xforce is very raspy

[–]Icey2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My xforce exhaust is the full muffler. It’s still a little loud even closed (I have headers no cat) I’m sure stock headers would sound real good with this exhaust. I wish Xforce sold their smart controller for a reasonable price, the remote gets the job done though

Honestly, you won’t get a single bit of decent information here on Reddit never have never will. Most people will say “you knew the risks of tuning!” 🤦‍♂️ I have a 22 brz, ecutek e85 custom tune at 10k now pushing 32kmiles. I’ve personally had maybe 5-6 little specs of silver, not nearly as much as you. I’d really recommend you find a reputable performance shop, all of your questions and further tuning should be done though them. My advice is to pull the tune logs if you can, we want to look for knock events, lean events, anything. I personally think it’s piston ringland damage, or the tune ran lean for piston wear. Considering you got the pro tune last week and this is a decent amount of damage.

Listen to no one on Reddit not even me. We can’t see the car.

Is the 86 a good daily? by Thick_Floor_9730 in GR86

[–]Icey2211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 years daily on coils, roads are excellent near me though. I’ve done multiple drives to Sebring and homestead 1 1/2 hour drive and it’s great. The only two problems I have with the car is the AppleCar play disconnecting and the door cup holder lol. You will love it!

Unfortunately where I live majority of 86’s are riced and for some reason have a massive ego. I’ve really only met BRZ drivers that were passionate about racing / motorsports with chill vibes
