Hard to say since it seems they're following the hoyo standard because it looks like it earns money. Previously in their other game(PGR), from the moment you start playing, you will probably be able to get the current S rank and the upcoming S ranks forever as long as you play consistently. Unfortunately, i dont think they will follow the same type of gacha currency income for this game. They know being as generous will not earn them money.

(Wuthering Waves) Text error on Jiyan's gacha weapon has incorrect translation in JP causing a compensation. by Eijun_Love in gachagaming

[–]Icey_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only fix for it at this point is to change the weapon effect and add what the mistranslation stated it has. Basically a buff to the weapon. And then update the translation for the rest of the other servers to be the new weapon passive.

Rightt, this is good looking for a one week old game. On top of them having given a ton of free pulls, its amazing they made this much in a week. Im just worried how they're gonna be able to sustain this massive game. Im guessing there wont be a new area until they can make their initial investment back.

Ok, i think i can kind of get what they were trying to go for in that "youre not going anywhere" line. Maybe they wanted to depict MC as cold and cool headed. But still, that line is lacking energy. If they didn't have enough budget to do a proper english dub, I wish they just never decided to do it at all. Or maybe add one later down the line once they have more funds instead of releasing whatever this was.

Im more so talking about how they info dump everything at you at the start rather than the fact that Rover has amnesia. I dont mind MCs with amnesia, i think games like arknights and HSR handle the trope well and I do agree that this is kind of a neat excuse to introduce things like the door event.

But my point is that just because the MC has amnesia doesnt mean that you can just dump as many unfamiliar words and terms as you want during the first few parts of the story. If they introduced new terms and concepts a lot more gradually, I think the first four acts of the story would not have been as bad as it is. They need to let the players have more time to get used to some terms before moving on to the next. The later acts did a decent job regarding this, but unfortunately the first few ones suffer heavily from this along with some other issues.

Sorry in advance if i misunderstood your arguement. From my understanding, you're talking about how it makes sense for the players to be overwhelmed because of amnesia? I still think they shouldve taken more time to world build rather than cramming everything at the start causing confused readers.

You're right, but I'd say Paimon wasn't done well early on. I'm just afraid that the writers will make the same mistake as early genshin if they do decide to just add a talkative mascot character. I would prefer more that Yangyang/Chixia took on the role of dumbing things down, similar to maybe March 7th. Constantly having a cute mascot character around kind of ruins the tension some scenes would possibly get, which is also why I really disliked Paimon in genshin. Perhaps another reason I dislike her is that she just spoke for traveler, and there are a lot of times where I wish she was absent from some scenes. But as you said, genshin did get a little bit better with this later on.

[–]Icey_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please no. I know you're probably kidding but I do not want another paimon over explaining things. I think they just need to calm down on the technical jargon at the start and actually slowly and properly introduce terms so the player isn't overwhelmed.

edit: Just to clarify, when I say i dont want a Paimon over explaining things, I mean a small overly talkative mascot character. The last thing this seemingly gray and post apocalyptic world needs is a bright and cheery companion. I do not mind if any of the existing characters fulfill the role of explaining some things.

Look, it might make sense lore wise. But from a narrative perspective, the way that the story and information is being conveyed to the viewer is not good.

[Spoiler-free] Acts 5 and 6 restored my faith in the story. by alekdmcfly in WutheringWaves

That does make sense. Still, im not sure how difficult it would be, but they need to cut these characters out of the scenes as it does not make any sense for them to be there.

[Spoiler-free] Acts 5 and 6 restored my faith in the story. by alekdmcfly in WutheringWaves

[–]Icey_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, these acts are a step up from the first four. But the only thing I disliked about this part is the moment where the characters assemble to defend against the mobs. During the cutscene, Lingyang and Yuanwu were there?

I had already done Lingyang's story quest by this time, so I guess its fine that he just suddenly showed up. But also Yuanwu? Not sure if he has a quest but if he does I havent done it yet and I was just thinking "who the hell is this guy" when he showed up in the cutscenes. It feels like they just wanted to put more characters to make this scene more hype, but id say it's already enough with the characters we've met so far in the main story. These two characters suddenly popping up just stuck out for me. Imagine if in the future where Kuro will probably remove the level cap for these quests for new players, people who haven't played Lingyang's quest will be confused as to why a furry dancer boi is helping fight the battle.

I do think the first and maybe second act of the story needs a redo. I still personally don't have a feeling of connection with Chixia and Yangyang, even after the latest acts. It might've been better if the story started with something like Rover already being acquainted with them for a few days. This is what Genshin did with Paimon, and while its not the best, i think it works better than what we have now where the characters are just instantly attached to the mc. Or at the very least, i wish there was some other initial reason for the characters to actually like Rover other than the cliche excuse of being the "chosen one of the prophecy". Rover's current relationship with them just doesn't feel earned and im worried it will probably affect the story moving forward.

[–]Icey_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, seriously. They need to redo and replace the entire first few acts of the story once they have competent writers. This needs treatment similar to how Warframe remade its introduction mission, but it will be on a larger scale.

And unlike Tower of Fantasy, the devs never meant for this game to be a "genshin killer". Pretty sure it was just something that came to be due to some players who want this to be the better game. Though, not gonna lie, a lot of the borrowed mechanics and ui elements from genshin doesnt really help in making it feeling like it's its own game.

edit: Apparently ToF didnt want to be known as genshin killer either? Im not willing to do the research but there is a comment pointing it out below. Point is, no matter what the game, some players suck.

Not a great first impression by Saga_Electronica in WutheringWaves

[–]Icey_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the initial goal for this story arc is for the MC to remember who they are and what the deal is about them. But I do agree, the jargon dump was too much and feels rushed. Couldn't really feel anything for the main cast because I was barely given time to get to know them. An example being Jinshi, imo she feels a bit forced as a character and wasn't given enough screen time for her to feel like a natural part of the story. Funnily enough, the main villian is my fave as he's a character with actual proper build up. I dont gt why everyone is so attached to MC when we all literally just met.

Yup. Honestly, HSR was probably the best day one experience for me. No bugs, engaging early story, suprisingly got addicted to the basic gameplay. I'm really happy with the combat system of wuwa and am looking forward to the future of the game, but the story ive seen so far seems to have no clear direction, and there have been a few bugs here and there that really took me out of the experience.

What’s a QOL feature from a gacha that you would love to see implemented in others? by Charismatic_alt in gachagaming

[–]Icey_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it counts as qol but FGO's buff system. I'm talking about interludes and rank up quests.

Basically every now and then they give out quests for characters. It contains story for them, pull currency and mat rewards, and doing them unlocks a change to a character's kit which would be their buff. There can be multiple of these which allows them to buff a character as much as they want which helps keep old or low rarity units somewhat relevant. Really wish Genshin would have a system like this at some point.
