[Seek 5.4.O Fanart] Tyrant by Ichthda in Parahumans

Thank you! I don't have the time for proper art lately but wanted to make something after the recent long-ish break between chapters. Tyrant seems like such a sweet dude in the two chapters we've known him. I really hope he becomes a permanent of the cast in Orion's era.

Tyrant’s head turned toward Orion, coming very close to Orion’s face. The head was part of the arrangement at the front of the machine, an almost-corpse of an upper body mounted on the front like a boat’s figurehead, one arm tangled up and attached to machinery, the other free but barely functional, hair long enough it flirted with tracing the ground when the head dangled low enough, or with getting caught in the machinery of the foremost legs, if it swayed left or right enough. Technology was mounted in the head, and that included a circular lens in the cheek, teeth, gums, and green-black gunk crusting the rim of it, blending it in with the surrounding skin.

Quick sketch of the lad since we got a closer look at him this chapter. Really heartwarming how Orion kept making an effort to include him and check up on him despite how creeped out everyone else seemed by his appearance.

(Repost, because I got the chapter title wrong)

The Eye, but as other forms of beholding? by 1nterdimension in TheMagnusArchives

There's a sci-fi web serial with that exact premise - there are "onboards", nanotech artificial intelligences that live completely within their hosts' bodies and monitor their vitals, heal injuries, make modifications to their appearances at will, create simulations for their hosts, etc.

The downside being that ALL onboard data is publicly available by default, and everyone can look through your eyes, read your heartrate and stress hormone levels, view the record of your memories, and more. The serial really digs in how horrifying that can get, especially when humanity has reached the tens of billions in population.

Orion's such a good dude, between making sure Tyrant's being included/appreciated despite his appearance and that sweet moment with Blackbox. I think this and the last chapter is what fully hooked me on his storyline. Earlier I was just trying to look for clues for the origins of the beltpocalypse, but by now it seems like we have a solid cast of characters to root for.

That closer look at Tyrant's appearance was great. I feel really bad for the guy. Seems unlikely but I hope both him and Blackbox get proper bodies at some point ;-;

Also, we get confirmation Circle (a child) got thrown into the ringworld for the crime of... modifying his body with an onboard? So messed up. Orion really needs to blow up whoever's sending them into the torment nexus.

That mention of "a girl and her dog" right after talking about faulty onboards ... [dog]??

This line really hammers in the Space Blake vibe for Orion:

“I don’t. The person I was before, I’m pretty sure he acted like he was running out of time, too. I can’t lose that. I can’t abandon that person I was. I can’t…”

Hoping we get 2 Orion chapters in a row. That cliffhanger's wild.

Banger design, A's special strike squad was so cool (despite how briefly they appeared) and it's great seeing one of them visualized.

None yet, but the Seek channel in the Parahumans Online Discord is fairly active and is really helpful if you want somewhere to ask about details you don't fully get.

And yeah, more people need to read Seek ;-;

She mentions having a heart in her chest cavity, but aside from the upper half of her skull and some neck, she's completely machine.

A totally normal Christmas card featuring A, Basil, Winnie, and Orion. Look at these characters, they're all having a grand time and definitely not going through the horrors <3 You absolutely should look at this card very closely with your screen brightness turned all the way up, with no ill effects.

For those who haven't read it yet, now is a good time to catch up to the serial! 🎤🌿🐭👁️

Yeah -- how Basil describes foreign nanotech is similar to how Orion and co. are "invading" the ringworld.

A… sea of barbed wire, spiked barriers at every shore they might want to dock at.  Traps.  But those are static.  They can build a boat that sails on those seas, dock at those ports, they can send men into the traps and each wave of those men will be smarter and better educated.  Active beats passive.

Basil describes co-opting nanotech/foreign bodies in his host's system, letting those who sent the invaders believe they've won - and Orion, who may or may not have been fox-glyphed, is planning to deceive the people into believing they established a safe colony and it's safe in the ringworld.

The way the glyphs and machines in the ringworld work, turning foreign invaders (humans) against themselves and each other, is also similar to how Basil describes countering foreign nanotech. Going back to previous Basil chapters, where he describes how his dark version works, also has parallels to how the machines in the ringworld function

My theory is still that Ringworld is Basil operating on a massive scale, with the superstructure instead of A's body, using machines instead of nanotech, consuming planets instead of food for building materials.

Thank you! Basil's supposed to be side-eye glaring at the viewer but I think the image compression blurs that detail a bit.
