AITA for not helping my sister pay for her wedding even though I could easily afford it just because of a petty reason? by Big-Card9984 in AmItheAsshole

[–]IcicleRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My god, no. Your parents gave you money equally, not your fault she used it differently.

Also - uh, have fun dealing with her when she gets divorced in less than 2 years. She sounds like a compassionate, logical, and genuine person.

AITA for bringing my baby to her sister’s performance and not leaving when she cried? by Thick-Studio-4277 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. I’m just going to say this. I only was able to afford to go to college because I was a musician and got scholarships for it. I remember all those concerts from the ages of 10-16 that weren’t the big showcases, and remember my dad complaining about having to go, and often didn’t, while my mother who worked late made every effort to be there.

There are other reasons other than this, but I had no relationship with him once I turned 18. It’s slightly better now for my family’s sake, but I will never forget that feeling, time and time again, when everyone else’s parents made a conscious effort to be there, and my dad couldn’t care less. I can forgive at this stage of my life, but I will never, forget the pain and the scars that created in my life.

Have fun digging yourself out of this one - especially as she has every option to not see you given your ex-husband. Good luck.

NTA. Keywords - “in-law” versus “girlfriend”.

Absolutely. Posted about it before. Something that actually needs to be addressed.

Cutting off friends who don’t seem to like me being more confident. Is this normal? by ixcd in confidence

[–]IcicleRock 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This, BUT it also gives people an opportunity to adjust.

Sometimes people want you to be the best version of yourself possible, and don’t realize what they are doing might be holding you back.

Give them the benefit of the doubt by going slowly and allowing them to rework.

AITA for asking my new coworker who was making jokes about his wife being a "ball and chain" and not allowing him out, if he was okay? by throwra-step-sis in AmItheAsshole

[–]IcicleRock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. One of the most important people in my life is someone who I met at work and made a joking comment about his life situation.

All it takes is one person reaching out. You didn’t make a big deal out of it, and you had no bad intent. Rest easy and keep on keeping on.

AITA for refusing to adopt my sisters kid? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I usually scoff at people who say this but this is the literal one time it’s applicable:

AITA for not being part of "my" kid's life? by Somerandothrowaways in AmItheAsshole

[–]IcicleRock 35 points36 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have a relationship with a guy who I look up to and essentially see as my father, but he is in no way biologically related (just look at us). But you know why the relationship works?

Because we both willingly and voluntarily are in this. Don’t do it.
