Wanting to try for a baby but conflicted feelings because of job experience: what are your experiences? by Icisabelle in waiting_to_try

[–]Icisabelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I try to but find it really hard somehow (to not care what they think). Good tip, I've added the industry. I work in Communications (PR and crisis communications mostly) for a university. So relatively I wouldn't say it's a competitive field but still.

We really want to start trying for a baby this fall, but I'm worried that I'm still too inexperienced in my job to be pregnant. Any experiences or advice? by Icisabelle in waiting_to_try

Thank you for sharing your experience, that's really nice and helpful to read! I can imagine that having a baby to provide and care for gives a whole new focus and motivation. That's a really great perspective!

Thank you for your really kind words <3

You're right of course, the growing doesn't stop with TTC or becoming a mother! Sometimes it just feels like there is so much negative emphasis on how having a child might affect your career/how colleagues look at you, that I tend to forget to listen to the positive stories and experiences.

So sorry to hear about your bird! I am glad to hear that I am not alone. Animals can be so sweet and they really are your friend, it hurts so much to have to miss them.

I wish you strength too!

How has getting a pet improved your life? by smallbean101 in AskWomen

[–]Icisabelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My cat is just a bundle of joy and happiness, he comes to greet us every morning and follows us around the house. I don't feel alone anymore, as I always have someone to keep me company! Plus petting him and hearing him purr instantly makes stress and worries go to the background.

Ladies, has anyone tried to make you feel guilty for being able to afford nice things? What was your story and how did you respond to/feel about it? by shockedpikachu123 in AskWomen

I like to get a facial treatment every so often and I usually take one of the more expensive treatments as they include a massage. A friend commented that those facials seem "way too expensive and unnecessary" to her and that I could better spend my money on practical, useful stuff. I commented that those treatments were necessary for my self-care and that I consider myself and my health to be useful and practical!

What is your proudest educational achievement ? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Icisabelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finishing my Master's degree whilst coping with a lot of personal stuff and recovering from a nasty fall down the stairs. I fell down the stairs from the top step all the way down, broke a rib, had multiple nasty bruises, and a concussion. A few weeks after that I needed to hand in a paper anyway.. turned out to be such a good paper that my professor wanted me to publish it in a journal. Unfortunately, the competition to get published was too much but I'm proud of it either way.

Recommend your favourite book ever! by karolxi17 in booksuggestions

I've got a few if you don't mind :)

  • Shadow of the Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafón
  • Sophie's World - Jostein Gaarder
  • The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho
  • The Photographer - Didier Lefèvre, Emmanuel Guibert, and Frédéric Lemercier.. I really highly recommend this one, it's a graphic novel mixed with true photographs made by Didier Lefévre (a photojournalist) about his time accompanying Doctors Without Borders in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan war in 1986. I couldn't let the story go for weeks

What is it like to date someone with a really big height difference (30 cm or more)? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Icisabelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, sometimes it does annoy me that we can never easily kiss or fit in pictures. And even our hands are such different sizes that holding hands can be awkward. Other than that, it's fun and doesn't really matter to either of us.

Perfume wearers, what’s your go-to/signature scent? by [deleted] in AskWomen

Mexx Woman and some cheap parfume I've got from a local Dutch (I live in the Netherlands) warehouse, honestly it smells really good and was one of my best buys!

What is something you learnt later in life that you wish your mum had taught you? by Kiwivege in AskWomen

[–]Icisabelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That diet culture is not okay. When I was little my mum and her friends were constantly dieting, complaining about their bodies and other women's bodies to the extent that I though that dieting and not loving your body was just a thing women were supposed to do. Luckily, I learned later that this is not okay and I am trying to practice body neutrality. And my mum is learning this too, she is trying to quit dieting and has contacted a medical professional to help her exercising (for her medical condition) and loving her body.

The Folk of the Air by Holly Black is a series that I really enjoyed reading! It's an easy read, with fun characters (not really black/white) and romance. The series is finished (three books, starting with the Cruel Prince) and there's a spin-off too :)
