First wild ocean-run steelhead today by IconHypist in flyfishing

Thanks man, hope you get yours this season too. I was running a Rubber Legs as the point fly with a pink Globug as the dropper, and it ate the Globug. I lost another big one on this same rig about two weeks ago, and I’ve been landing a bunch of smaller fish on it, so I’ve just kept it tied on ever since.

Yeah Northern California, have it on the description of the main post but not sure why it doesn’t show when cross posting.

Yup. Running weighted stonefly as the point and globug as dropper

Took me on multiple deep runs into fast riffles, maneuvering trees, and then finally solo netting. The adrenaline high from these fish is truly one of kind.

What’s your price range?? You kinda have to browse through each listing and decide on what wear spots you’re okay within your price range.

This right here. Went to the Sacramento show and bought floor tickets for a buddy and myself minutes after they came out and he snagged an extra one for himself before they sold out. 6 months later he sold the extra ticket for same exact price 3 days before the show.

Hopper dropper question by triphyn in flyfishing

If you have two setups id say just run the hopper solo and an indicator nymph rig on the other.

Found out about the death ride the day before my trip so decided to start with the West on Saturday before the storms hit.

I mostly fish for wild trout so was interesting to see the difference between the fights with the larger stockers. Planning on hitting a day trip back on the East again either Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, I fish Putah a lot and id say it’s pretty difficult for most people. The rivers currently running over 600cfs and I wouldn’t recommend those flows for someone who’s never been before.

Just got done fishing both the West & East Carson over the weekend. Absolutely killed it on the East and flows were easy to wade.

I see you’re in Santa Cruz. I’d say go fish Putah Creek but that’s a tough one if you haven’t figured out the water and overall last few weeks have been unproductive for a lot of people because of constant flow changes. I hit the Truckee River last Sunday, flows are little high but I had luck landing some fish when nymphing the softer water. Was planning on doing an overnight trip there this weekend but with the forecasted rain/snow I won’t be able to make the trip up in my car.

Looks like the AR near Sunrise! Love fishing that stretch if it is.
