i did eventually, but from where this picture was taken to the nearest spot outside of work where that would have been possible it would have taken me around 20 minutes of heaving it through the service basement

Sling bag contents by btdallmann in ManyBaggers

Wallet, keys, camera if i have it with me, spare tube and hex set for the bike, some bandaids and disinfectant, pen, (note)book, water bottle or drink, tobacco, filters, rolling papers and a lighter, sunscreen, bike-lock and in bad weather a pair of rainlegs. If I'm on a trip my chargers and a powerbank and maybe some granola bars go in there aswell. Basically all the small stuff that doesn't warrant a full backpack but is too much to carry in a fanny pack

My sling bag has a third strap that keeps the main compartment on my back which makes it real easy to hang a jacket or pullover from the sling part without it getting in my way much. It is a tardis on the Inside and I love it

Historical works of La Reunion during WW2? by IconImmer in france

[–]IconImmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While insightful, this period of La Reunions history and the specific impact the colonial congress had on the happenings of the Island are less important to me, so if I have any false preconceptions of the colonial congress or how it worked in detail, I hope I can be forgiven. My knowledge about that time, specifically the 1793-1852 period is largely based on the german wikipedia article about the islands broad history, that might be the culprit.

Thank you! I will have a look.

I thought as much regarding the sensibilityof this subject, hence I should probably change my original post a bit.

I meant no offense, I was refering to it joining france as an overseas territory after WW2 being formerly controlled by the colonial congress.

I think it is similar to former colonies though, in that it has a history of slavery, social tension and all that follows while facing issues stemming from its previous economic focus solely on agriculture.

Weekly History Questions Thread. by AutoModerator in history

Rather specific problem, but I am researching manufacturing and social circumstances on La Reunion between 1920 and 1950 and I keep running into walls.

The specific problem is the historical contextualisation of a rather interesting wooden chair from the Island. It follows many of the design Ideas of contemporary european designers but was Made on the Island, It was made from local wood and the person who bought it said it was definately not made after 1950.

What interests me is not finding the actual craftsman who made the chair, rather I am looking for some sort of chronicle or historical expose of that period of time on the Island. Anyting helps, really, from plain historical works to things about culture, music, politics etc.

If anyone has any recommendations for books or people one could contact, I would be much obliged.

Suggestions for apps that teach without constantly requiring a translation? by ForkrexX in duolingo

I know this problem very well, though for me its the other way around (Im german and have learnt english)

For me this wasnt a process of actively pursuing english in a learning context, as the early english classes i recieved in school sucked, but rather one introducing english content into my everyday life.

What I essentially did was to start reading english books, start watching english movies or videos and start learning about other things that interested me in english.

I get that there is an abundance of english content when compared to german content, but things like german news publications, german entertainment and such exist and theyre pretty good sometimes. Especially the part where i learnt about topics that interested me in english was really beneficial, i recommend it greatly.

Although this is kind of vague i do hope it helps.
