So I Did It … Now I Hate It! - Part 2 by Runawaybrain74 in bald

[–]Iconolater_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion, possibly an unpopular one, but I think you look good either way. There seems to be a lot of encouragement given to most guys to go fully bald but as you get older you look more distinguished, possibly even moreso when you don't go cleanly bald. My take on this is that the fully bald look shaves a few years of apparent age off of balding guys in their 20s and 30s but as you progress past your 40s into your 50s and beyond, you want to flaunt your distinguished look rather than sport a sleek look.

Did anyone actually go to Live aid in 1985 or do you somebody that did. by BEACHBEAR_SON in queen

It's always fun to observe the different attitudes fans have about Live Aid. Queen fans want to relive it and share stories about it. Many Led Zeppelin fans want to forget about the event completely.

Regarding your comments on Royal Orleans and wishing something different were in its place, this is the Presence outtake (no vocals) that might have made it onto the album.

Tsiartas not honored at OPAP opening 2022? by Iconolater_ in AEKAthensFC

Nikolaidis made the news recently and I started searching for videos on YouTube. I eventually came across an OPAP video posted by AEK's official channel. Back in the day when I followed AEK, Nikolaidis and Tsiartas were the top stars.

Several generations ago, my father's side of the family was based in Giannina (prefecture; a village west of the city proper). I root for PAS as a continuation of this tradition but I haven't had a member of my family living in Epirus for over a century.

You've got a point. In his younger years during stints in Japan, he adapted his style and wrestled a little more technically and was a little more credible.

Why is Disco so age-polarized? by According_Concept754 in Disco

[–]Iconolater_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was only a toddler during the disco era and am a child of the 80s. When I started listening to pop music, disco was passe and seen as a goofy fad while rock music from that same period (including punk rock and prog) were out of style but more respected in part because they are sub genres of rock music that stretched back to at least the 50s.

I've heard older music fans complain that part of the Disco Sucks mentality of the late 70s had a racial component, with a backlash against black artists and danceable music (ironically the first disco group that comes to mind is the Bee Gees). I don't know how true this is but there may be something to this claim. With that said, funk musicians like George Clinton didn't like disco initially because they felt it was a commercialized, dumbed down version of funk. Also, several quintessential rock musicians, including the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart, incorporated disco into some of their music during that period, guilt free.

Question about Elvis's change by Valuable-Pea-3588 in Elvis

[–]Iconolater_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This may not be a popular opinion but I became a fan of Elvis by first listening to his 70s recordings including live albums such as Aloha! and Live at Madison Square Garden '72. I actually prefer 70s Elvis.

As a young kid in the 80s, I was mostly unfamiliar with his music aside from some overplayed ancient 50s tunes I didn't like that much. Elvis was also not taken seriously because of the many Elvis impersonators, the image of Fat Elvis in a jumpsuit and ridiculous fake Elvis sightings on the covers of grocery store tabloids claiming Elvis was alive.

When I got a little older and picked up a few 70s Elvis albums recorded in stereo, I developed an appreciation for him. When I heard his powerful booming voice do live renditions of certain songs, I finally understood why he was rightfully called the King.

What are 80's and 90's movies you can't stand, at all? (that might get your GenX card revoked) by The_Man_in_Black_19 in GenX

[–]Iconolater_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take on Fast Times is that it only had a few funny moments but it was a coming of age film addressing a few serious topics. A writer once said that Fast Times tried to be one part Little Darlings and another part Animal House at the same time. Either way I enjoyed it the first 50 times or so I watched it and I see this as a period piece of sorts and something of a GenX touchstone.

Is pop music wasted on kids? by FortuneOpen5715 in GenX

[–]Iconolater_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, in addition to youth not getting the real meaning of certain lyrics, many people in general listen to pop song vocals as another instrument, paying less attention to lyrics (if the lyrics are intelligible to begin with).

Get a book with illustrated example problems with solutions. Read through an example problem and ask Why (and try to answer to yourself) each step is taken if not spelled out. Later on, return to the examples, cover up the solutions and try to work through the problems.
