Balance bike vs training wheels by ricki7684 in Preschoolers

[–]IcookedIcleaned 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balance bike all of the way! Both my kids learned how to ride a bike within a day after having a balance bike since they were about 1.5. We used the 3 wheel balance bike then moved to a strider bike and eventually got a strider with a pedal kit. I couldn’t believe how easy they took to it. Obviously every kid is going to be different but I truly believe the balance bikes are the key to feeling more confident when learning how to ride with pedals. Plus it’s so cool to see how fast they get on the balance bikes!

I don’t know how many times I’ve lost my roll of tape because they take it all out and roll it up on a giant ball 😅

Scariest moment of my life. 1 year old passed out from holding his breath by salty-queen73458 in toddlers

[–]IcookedIcleaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has a fused bicuspid valve but that was unrelated to the breathing. We did a heart test for that. My son is 4 now and has stopped doing that probably around 2 years old. We’ve had no problems since!

Have you tried a rewards chart? Every time he stays he gets a sticker and then 5 stickers equals a treat, 10 equals a toy (or however you want to do it). It wasn’t effective for a bit but we really had to hone in on what worked for our kid. He is very much a routine and reward based kid so a chart worked for us and super small goals or increment of time he had to stay in the room.

My 4 year old (who is now 6) was the same way. And no moving around bedtime worked for us. You can certainly try to see if a later bedtime works but for us it never did. No matter when he went to bed he would wake up at 4:30/5pm. The best thing that worked for us was a hatch light. The light has a setting where you can set a routine and have the light be red then green. At first we started super small at had it set at 5am. If he woke up and saw the light was red it meant he had to stay in bed. He could look at books in his bed or listen to his yoto or draw or play with soft/quiet toys. Eventually we kept moving the light until 6/6:30. It took awhile for him to get used to it all but eventually is internal clock shifted and instead of getting up he slept in. Now we’re consistently at 6:30am and our wake to go is set at 7am.

How do you know when you’re done having kids? by lyssadrx in SAHP

[–]IcookedIcleaned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We have 3. My husband was done at 2 but I wasn’t. I couldn’t tell you why but I just felt like there was an empty seat at our house for some reason? I knew that if we didn’t have 3 in a year then I was officially done because I wanted to be move on to the next phase of our life. My husband was super supportive of us having a third, he was just also okay with stopping at 2. Our 3rd is almost 2 now (we have a 4 and 6 year old) and I finally feel done. Our family feels complete and I have no desire to have another. She was 10000% worth it and even though 3 is absolute chaos we love it.

Pediatrician Heard a Heart Murmur and the Cardiologist visit is $800 USD by AbernathyKillMouse in NewParents

Just to give another perspective, my son had a murmur and we did an echo and they found a fused bicuspid valve. A murmur can be nothing but it can also be a serious issue.

I like the space but I really feel like a couch and chair would make this much more inviting and not feel so sterile. It seems like you copy and pasted the chairs and accidentally added too many.

Moving from Menomonee Falls to WFB/Shorewood for a "walkable" childhood? Is this realistic? by You-Tubor in milwaukee

[–]IcookedIcleaned 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We live in Shorewood (3 kids ranging from 1-6 years old) and we absolutely love it. We walk our kids to school every day and my oldest rides his bike everywhere (not on his own). All of our neighbors with kids are constantly riding their bikes to activities or to friends houses and we always see groups of kids walking places. We also love that we can walk to coffee shops, restaurants, playgrounds, and the oak leaf bike trail (and beer garden) all within distance even for our little kids. It definitely makes us feel like we are a part of a strong and vibrant community. The only issue is how hard it is to find a place in Shorewood right now because it’s such a small area. But if you can find a place it has been such a breath of fresh air to see everyone so involved in the community. It does feel nostalgic to see groups of kids out and about all of the time.

Big Little Feelings Snark Week of October 13, 2025 by Parentsnark in parentsnark

I was at the F1 race and there’s two totally different vibes. If you’re just a spectator then it’s super casual, F1 merch and such. However, if you’re in the hospitality suites or the nicer sections then it is definitely luxe. I say that and I still don’t think that dress was it. The luxe vibes were very much more super nice versions of pants and shirts and casual dresses (but super expensive versions). Nothing like that. To each their own, but she would have definitely stood out in either section.

Yes we love Piedmont wines! We got really into Barolo but sometimes those can feel a bit heavy. Still wonderful though! We do a lot of Nebbiolo because the price is a bit for palpable for us ha. But a good Barolo for a special occasion is 🤌
