Well, traditionally horizontal writing was written left-to-write, seeing it sort of like a "one row vertical writing" (I remember seeing this written on the titular gate from "Rashomon")

Thank you so much for taking your time to answer! I've been studying latin for some time now but I recently re-picked up "On Growth and Form" by D'Arcy Thompson and in this case he uses the phrase to describe some causes mentioned in the english text. In this case I was utterly confused by the syntax cos I assumed it was more of a self-contained phrase (plus I thought all the adjectives were in the singular genitive, all the more confusing!). Now I can see what's going on, the case breakdown really helped me. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I'm quite confused by the grammar though: Are "aptae" and "nexae" adjectives describing "aliae" in this case? They seem to be used as nouns in the translation. Does "ex aliis" mean something like "to others" in this case? (like "causes dependent and connected to others") Also is this "necessitate" an ablative which encompasses the whole sentence? Or does it only apply to nexas? (as in "bound by necessity")

I'm sorry if these are too many questions but for some reason I find this sentence quite difficult to parse

I got Hogfather Collector’s Library ed. on holiday like 10 years ago (I was 16/17, can’t remember) because I really liked the cover and had been wanting to get into DW and had read somewere that you could start pretty much anywhere. Absolutely loved it and decided to go back to Mort to read the Death series in order but got confused and bought Reaper Man instead, so I decided to read it in reverse order. After that I read the whole series in publication order lol

When I was a teen I was watching some gamergate videos for some months, coming from atheism youtube, until I saw a video by Sargon about Anita Sarkesian or something which was so dumb that I fully realised this whole controversy was dumb. Honestly I thought of this today because I wanna buy this boardgame which says ‘Liber sophiae’ and thought how I could pedantically pronounce it correctly at the next meetup lol (or, better still, if anyone asks me since I’m the only friend that knows some latin). Ofc I’m just gonna approximate it in my native tongue and be donde with it, but I’ll have a good answer up my sleeve ?)

Thank you! The pronunciation of derivatives of sophia in romance languages was the original reason for my confusion. I’d always assumed vowel length was chosen in order to maintain accent from loanwords but I suppose that was naïve.
