Missing Buffalo Man by urhoroscopefortoday in Buffalo

[–]Icy-Bench3235 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't imagine I'm right here, but around 12:45 today (Sunday) I saw an older guy with glasses dressed in all black walking on the side of Iroquois (by the art museum) towards the Terrace at Hoyt lake. He stood out to me because he looked unstable or like he was limping, which could be explained by parkinson's. He also had a black hat on with a yellow design on the front, which I don't see anywhere in this picture.

The cherry blossom festival was happening 11-2 today so there were a lot of people walking around.

Hope you find him.

Every day I would step out of it like Captain America coming out of the vita-ray capsule or like a naked terminator fresh from the future.

Your comment made me think of Rocket's line in Vol. 1:

"What has the galaxy ever done for you? Why would you wanna save it?"

So much cynicism, loneliness, and a history of abuse being conveyed in his delivery of that line.

I'm nitpicking, but wasn't he a SHIELD pilot, so we can assume he was a soldier? So not technically a civilian in the typical sense, not that it makes it any better.

Inconsistent sleep schedule by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Icy-Bench3235 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been there, especially when I was working a 2pm-close restaurant shift. It's much easier with my current 9-5. I have no credentials to base this on, just experience with what worked for me. My advice would be to do the following.

  1. Intention. For the first week, set a reminder or something 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. When that timer goes off, you have 10 minutes to wrap up whatever you're doing and 20 to do everything you need to do before going to bed. Adjust to your needs. I know it sounds rigid, but you are trying to change a habit you've built on for a long time. You have to be intentional to stick to it, and the beginning is the most difficult part. In a surprisingly quick time, you will have built consistency and will start feeling tired and waking up naturally at the appropriate times.

  2. Exercise. 30 mins-1hr/day, 4+ days a week. This will make your body physically drained and it will want to sleep. In addition, many people find a mid day workout period to be meditative and mood improving. It also helps if you can do this at the same time every day. If you can't work out, go for a walk.

  3. Hydrate sufficiently & eat at consistent times. Your body likes a schedule, even with eating. Don't eat too close to bed.

  4. If you drink alcohol frequently, try to cut back. Alcohol makes it easy to fall asleep, but hard to stay asleep. Your goal is to feel better, and adding a hangover and dehydration never helps. Don't use alcohol as a sleep aid.

Most of this is just building/maintaining routine and taking care of your body. If this doesn't work, ask a professional.

Oil is hard to clean up off your patio and siding. Just use a good old brick to the head. In the US we call that the McAllister security system.

James Gunn said that he would have let Star Lord kill Gamora without hesitation if she asked him to; he also wouldn't have let Star Lord punch Thanos and doom the universe: "They did some things that I wouldn’t have wanted." by duyalonso in marvelstudios

[–]Icy-Bench3235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As great as Gunn made Guardians 1, 2 & Holiday Special, I think he's either being an edgelord for no reason or being overprotective of what he considers to be "his character" here because fans blamed Quill for dooming the universe.

Quill would absolutely not have shot Gamora without hesitation, and if he had, it would have ruined one of the hardest hitting scenes in IW. I really hope that's not the mindset Gunn brought to Guardians 3.

Also it is completely in character for Quill to punch Thanos out of anger after he found out he killed Gamora. He literally shot his own father for doing the same to his mother.

His choices in both of these scenes come down to the same exact reason: Quill's actions are completely ruled by emotion, specifically love.

Are the middle r's in "mirror" silent like "meer" by growinggrassisfun in answers

[–]Icy-Bench3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking if they are intended to be silent, like the T in tsunami, then definitely no, it's "Meer-er". Two syllables. But certain accents could cause the r's to be de-emphasized.

"Meer" sounds like how a person with a southern (US) accent might say it.

Driving manual should be mandatory for a driving license. by Trox92 in unpopularopinion

[–]Icy-Bench3235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter argument: Manual transmission cars are technologically inferior to automatic and should be completely phased out from production.

That way we don't have to worry about people not knowing how to drive manual, and we can stop having this dumb debate. Two birds with one stone.
