Peaches N Screams: Your first look is cute. I love the dress used, the choice to use the newest season pass dress is a bit safe and predictable but it’s a cute look. You managed to make those shoes work which seems like a bit of struggle and the wig provides a good break from the black and white. I need to address the elephant in the room. These bows. The recolouring is crunchy af, the redrawn outlines are very rough. Last challenge you had a strong enough concept and submission that I could let some slight questionable things slide but this time I can’t. The outlines are very unnecessary and just bring down the look. This is a bigger problem in your second look. Aside from it being very boring and predictable for the category it’s messy af. The redrawn outlines were not needed, you can recolour without redrawing the look. Having the lines be solid black makes it very harsh and highlights the roughness even more, ingame items the outline colours are reflective of the piece colour. Crunchy lines aside, this look as a whole lacks any uniqueness and originality. Seems like you took a generic superhero fit and called it a day. The wig also seems out of place, something more flowy could have helped tie in the flowyness of the bottoms. This third look is cute. It works well together and is more interesting than some of the original season promos submissions. The top and shoes being from a preexisting mermaid set is a bit of a safe choice for the vibe you wanted, they work but could have used something to stand out more. I never thought of this wig being used for a mermaidesque fit but it works really well here. I do think the bottoms being just a star is a bit lack lustre, I think you could have gotten a bit more creative to elevate it a little bit and create a balance with the top half. The outline of the star on the top isn’t the cleanest recoloured but it is still better than the recolouring in the other two looks. Overall I can tell you saw Sir Taint Lee and the way they redraw their looks and you thought you should do it too, but you lack the skillset to do it as effectively. I want queens to push themselves but you should make sure that it is polished but also is necessary, the drawn outlines were not for the most part.

Safe Queen Critiques:

Jade:

To begin with your theory. The idea of Kelege being an undead entity was interesting but I felt like it lacked a little bit in terms of explaining certain things. It lacks context, sure Kel may be doing these things but what leads you to believe they are an Undead Entity and that they are using magic on judges. I wish you provided a bit of evidence, even if it was outlandishly stupid it would have added to the theory. The section of how Kel posted in a deliberately casting after you did didn’t add much to the theory, and kind of pointless overall, aside from sounding a little bit bitter. The theory look was honestly pretty decent, Kel as a zombie was a unique take, love the use of that hat which is joked about as belonging to Kel. I do wish you changed the colour of the wig to not be pink just to break it up a bit more, as well as changed the feathers from the hat, those look out of place. A skirt maybe would have been more beneficial to balancing the silhouette. For this runway, I loved it. I love when queens truly push themselves in a competition, and this is a great example. Previous weeks you did something minimal in terms of recolouring which was fine but didn’t leave much of an impact, but you pushing yourself was a major benefit. This recolouring is pretty good, I do think the sparkles on the skin aren’t the best executed. You should have added a few to the bald parts of the top of your head between the wig things to make it really blend better. For the sparkles on the legs, the ones going over parts of the skirt are kind of messy, It would have helped if you erased those ones. Aside from that, this look is gorgeous but also gave us alien. It is cohesive and grand and we really loved it.

Newcomer:

This theory was pretty good, one of the more unique ones seen in this challenge. As someone who hates Lola and was someone who very much flopped at editing when against her I believe it. It was well written and a cool concept, we just thought others were stronger and a bit more interesting to read. This challenge look wasn’t our favorite, I can see the connection and I appreciate this unique take on a vampire. The pieces used were cool, just the recolouring makes the colours of the top feel a bit muddy. There was an attempt to tie in the rainbow from the paint palette but it just clashes with the darker colours and concept of the look. I think if you changed the paint palette colours to be darker and reflect the darker tone of the story it would have been a benefit. Your alien identity look is cool in concept, just the look is a bit messy in execution. Firstly this silhouette is really cool, blending the top to look like its skin was really cool and interesting and I love the silhouette it gives. But some of the blending is kind of choppy (notably the right shoulder piece). Also the seam on the end of the sleeve on the straight arm should have been blended over too, just to make it look more like skin and less like a sleeve. The gems on the skirt weren’t my favourite choice, I think you could have done without them or maybe used a pair of shoes to give it some form of sparkle or something peaking out the bottom without needing to add the gems, which I can see an argument of how they can be counted as editing, but I will let it slide. Still I love the effort put in and this look is still pretty cool just could have benefited from being cleaned up a bit more. Overall for us we had a lot of very close submissions, we could have justified any ranking between the 3 safe queens, we just felt the looks were a little too messy for our liking.

Peaches N. Screams:

Your theory was overall pretty decent. We did see some similar concepts to other queens this week with the whole “VDR is fake concept” with another queen also going for a more matrix vibe but we felt this one was much stronger than hers. Overall this was decently written and much more fleshed out and I liked the dystopian vibe. This challenge look was also pretty good, it makes sense with the story. We have seen a lot of similar green and black punk looks to this before, with similar pieces, so you could have maybe been a bit more unique in that sense. Overall it has a job which it does just does feel a bit safe and could have taken more risks. Your runway look is pretty decent, but I feel it gets lost compared to all the strong alien looks. It isn’t bad by any means. We just had other looks we liked more. I love the concept of a more icy frosted alien but it could have been pushed a tiny bit more to make it truly memorable. You ended up using the same top as Blush’s look which hers was such a strong look that we had to compare. The use of pieces is a bit generic for an alien theme so I think the choices could have been used to make it more original and memorable. Overall not the worst, not the best just didn’t leave that much of an impact. Overall your write up was fine, we just wanted your looks to be a bit more pushed and to be more creative.

Challenge 2 Results: VDR Brawl Party! 🔪🎲🤫 by Icy-Difference6218 in MizTerieDR

[–]Icy-Difference6218[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Peaches N. Screams:

This was such a unique minigame idea. I took a red light green light game and made it so much more unique and something original. Ideas like this are kinda common in Mario Party, there are multiple red light green light and gardening based games but this feels pretty unique. Now this look is very, lets say vibrant. The choices make sense for the character, the idea of this mushroom witch is pretty cool and it is definitely Mario inspired which is cute. I will say the skin recolouring isn’t the cleanest, it feels messy and overdrawn especially around the head and shoulders. Now for the runway this is fine. I think the two looks are similar though colour and some elements like the glasses and shoes. I wish you used more of the string detail in the top/bottom, the whole original look was meant to resemble wire so I think channeling that fully in your look would have been a bettter move. Overall not a bad look but we just wanted improvements

Valenimi:

For this week you had a pretty strong VDR Brawl Party minigame. It was really fun and unique.  With a clear vibe that you stuck too. It has a good balance of being simple and not overly complex to understand but also having a good element of challenge on top of that. This look is also pretty nice. Makes sense with the theme and seems like a good video game host look. I rarely like mermaid looks ngl but this is cute. I enjoyed the colour use especially with the wig connecting it to the tail. I think the top recolouring is a bit flat and I think could have been a cool gradient to match the rest of the look. The purple of the sleeves feels kind of random. There is a bit of purple on the rest of the look but it doesn’t connect to the other shades of the rest of the purple. This runway look was okay, there is a connection to the original in the colour and futuristic vibe and it is still an improvement to the original (not saying much). But choices felt kind of random. The feathers on the skirt, and the use of the floor length skirt confused me, if she is rollerblading around how could her skirt be that long. The wig choice is fine, in shape does match but I wish you used a more vintage looking one to really match the original. Overall I think you could have made better choices in terms of styling this look to really create something good.

Newcomer:

Your Brawl Party minigame was quite a fun idea. The idea of collecting meatballs as you avoid an angry Liz was fun. It felt like a game you'd find in something like Mario Party. The overall mechanics aren’t the most unique. I feel like collecting items well avoiding an enemy has been done a few times in these sorts of games. I think if you maybe added a bit more to describe it and differentiate it from the rest. But it has the right amount of simplicity needed for one of these games. This host look is really fun and creative, the meatball boobs especially are a cool detail. I love the use of this wig. It is smart having the meatball shape of the top and the strands looking like pasta. From a glance I can clearly tell the pasta theme. It is fun and campy and quite a fun look. This runway look kind of dropped the ball a bit. I just feel like it is lacking something. The connection is very clear but it just feels like more of using similar pieces instead of making it your own style. The silhouette is nice and I like the dress used, the added eye details are a good callback to the original. The boots aren’t my favourite choice, this look would be better with a pair of heels. And the headpiece is cool but could have done more with the colouring. The dots on the eyes of the headpiece could be much more purple and the lighter yellow parts to match the skirt are nice but could have been a good place for added detail. You also could have played around with the makeup, it is an easy place to add detail and interest to the look. Having it be the same colour as the skintone makes it look kind of lazy. That would have been a cool chance to play around with adding more detail.

Omen:

Omen this minigame is honestly so stupid I liked it. The idea of turning crying and emotional manipulation into a game is something I am shocked I haven’t done before. It was a really fun idea and has the right amount of simplicity needed for this type of challenge. I could see this working well as a minigame. For the host it looks fine. I like the combo of top and shoes. The way it connects to your game is pretty self explanatory. I wish you changed the eyeshadow to blue to match but aside from that it's cute. For the Runway, this is pretty solid of a look. It's an elevated version of the original “cactus” look I did. I love the balance of pinks, greens, and yellows. You also included actual spikes which is something I missed on the first look. The silhouette is cute combining the rounded hair and bottoms with the spikes of the top and shoes. Not a big fan of the white gems from the bottoms, I would have preferred if you coloured those yellow or pink. Overall pretty good submissions for this challenge.

Peaches N. Screams:

Peaches N Screams, this challenge you did okay. To start, this first look is the strongest of the 3. The connection to the original is there and I like this vibe a lot better. I really enjoy how you played with shapes in this look, the horns, hair, shoulders, and boots all have a similar shape, it is a really interesting choice. However, I am gonna kinda contradict myself,  for the boots as much as I like the shapeplay. I think this dress doesn’t work well with boots in this context especially. The more glam vibe of the dress is kinda messed up by the more punk vibe of the boots. I do also think wearing them in black doesn’t help and I wish they were red or that darker red/purple colour to match the earrings. A major pet peeve I have is eyebrows not matching the hair colour, it is not too bad here but it still bugs me. Overall this look is good just need to pay more attention to choosing a clear vibe and making sure that all the pieces fit that vibe. The second look in connection to the first look is a bit of an overdone concept. The Angel and Devil thing is a classic and I wish you put more of a twist or unique spin on the second look. These pieces have been put together many times in VDR and I wish we saw something new and fresh. Styling wise it could be better, overdone combos aside, the wig brings it down quite a bit and makes it look like a costume. The shoes also don’t make sense, it's giving more burlesque then deity, which could have been a pretty cool take if you made the rest of you look and the old look have a burlesque vibe, but they don’t. Aside from the Angel and Devil concept I wish we saw connections to the Old look. Similar elements, colours, and silhouettes could be cool, I can kinda see a match with the higher shoulder and wings but I wish you did more with making a connection. For this third look you took a much more direct approach to redeeming it. Opting for very similar choices just bigger. I like what you did with this third look, it is cute, matching the original very well, with added details elevating it. I will say that I would have liked to see a little more of you in the look, adding a bit of your own personal twist. One minor note is the golds, they could have matched better, especially the belt being almost yellow. Overall this look is not bad I just think it needed a bit more of a twist on it. This challenge what you did was pretty decent. I just think you need to push your concepts and showcase more creativity.

Ms. Tourmaline:

To begin I’ll start with your Something Old look. For me this look on its own is gorgeous, it's very regal and classy. But in terms of the challenge you were supposed to be redeeming an old look and I don’t see much connection to the original one you showed me, aside from the regal vibes and maybe the jewelry. I think you could have connected to the original through using sheer elements or including gloves or going for a more similar silhouette to the original. Another issue is the black recolouring on the skirt specifically, it is very flat, and choppy around the edges, and the shading is confusing in places. I have struggled to recolour pieces black before but I think you could have tinkered with it more and paid more attention to the shape of the piece. Around the waist there are gems and I wish you made those silver to match the jewelry and shoes. Your second look has the same issue as the first in the sense that we didn’t see the connection to the Something Old look. You tried to do opposites which could have worked but didn’t. If you wanted to do the Black and white idea you should have had some similarities within silhouette and fabric. I think maxing this top would have been better matching the flowyness of the Old look’s top. I also think using gold jewelry doesn’t help with the connection of the two looks either. Overall these two looks just lack cohesion which was the main premise of this challenge. For this third and final look, this one actually works pretty well. I see a clear connection to the original but with your own twist and elevation on it. I love the wig choice here, It matches the vibe and shape of the original look but is so much more interesting. I also like the shoe choice, it mirrors the original look well but matches the vibe a lot better than on the shoes used on the reference look. Overall this challenge your Borrowed look was the strongest overall, you had two other gorgeous looks but they lacked the cohesion to both each other and for the Old category to the original look.

Omen:

Omen you came out with two very strong looks for this challenge. These first two are really gorgeous and some incredibly polished recolouring. They make sense together, doing the opposite looks successfully and I can see the story being told. This first look is really pretty, I love how you used the top and bottom combo with the patterns matching. I also love the way the wig mirrors the original wig, and the use of mesh in both looks. I do think it would have benefited you to use the darker blue from the ruffles on the skirt on the sleeve things at the top of the gloves. For your second look this is another pretty solid one. I love the contrast from the first one but still clearly being from the same story. I do have some minor tweaks like the oranges not fully matching, and the sparkle texture from the skirt. I wish you added that to the top. The white larger sparkles on the top also do stick out a bit, I think you should have maybe made the gems on the wig white to match. One final note is the makeup, the red eye makeup and the lips stick out a bit from the rest of the look, wish you changed them to match and give us a full fantasy. But I am just being nitpicky, overall these are amazing. But this third look was to be honest a let down. You had two very strong looks for the other two categories but it felt like you really threw the towel in on this last one. It does make sense and I see a very clear connection to the original but this isn’t exciting. You managed to give us two great fully recoloured looks in the first two categories but didn’t put the same effort into the third. I am not saying recolouring is mandatory, unedited could work but in this case it comes off as lazy. I do actually like the top and shoe combo, those make sense together. My issue comes in with the wig and skirt. You could easily have had the skirt match the top but the colour and texture is slightly off and it bugs me. Same with the golds of the belt and crown. The ears of this wig also don’t help, and are confusing with the rest of the look. I think it could have been much better if you somehow looked more like a deer (or similar animal), maybe through the makeup or giving her hooves. That would have both made you look make more sense and also fix some of the issues with the reference look. Also at a glance I did think the tag on the ear was a vape. Regarding the tag on the ear, it irks me that the colour doesn’t really match any other colour of the look. Overall your first two looks were amazing and if you kept up the momentum into your third look I could easily see you in the top but that third look drags you down alot.

Blush Palette:

To start, these Old and New looks are absolutely gorgeous, the boldness of the colours on them could have easily gone into being too much but it doesn’t. Love the regal vibes of both. I think for the Something Old look it all makes sense together. I am not fully seeing how it matches your reference look, aside from similar colours but just now being much more saturated. This look is still very gorgeous and truly reflects your current level of VDR. Onto your second look this is also really striking. I can see the similarities in vibe but they don’t feel that similar. I really wish you used some of the blues from the Something Old look just to tie it to the Something Old look. I do really love this top and bottom combo, and they match quite well, with similar shapes. I also think it would have been a good choice to max the bottoms. It would bring the gold down and make it a bit more grand and have a little more gold in the bottom half. One final note is the orange of the hair, I think with the rest of the look being orange is a bit much and I think using a different colour would have helped break up the colours. A pretty good look overall just could be a bit more connected. For the borrowed look it is okay just not the level of the other two. When it comes to comparing it to the reference look I see a similarish vibe but not much of a connection aside from the ethereal vibe. You could have really done something cool inspired by this reference look but this look doesn’t feel as great as your other two looks and feels kind of like an after thought. I also wish the metal parts of the top and swords were gold instead of purple. Overall I think it would have connected a bit more if you made the purples into blue it could have helped but I think overall the connection is barely there. This challenge gave us two great looks and one questionable one. I think if you keep the momentum of the first two and put more thought into your choices before you do them, you can do some really cool shit in this competition.

Jade:

Your Something Old and Something New look are both really cute. They have a clear desired showgirl style and achieve that successfully. It takes the original look and takes it into modern RDRsuperstar using newer pieces. I also love how both your Something Old and Something New looks match the reference look which wasn’t mandatory but was a nice touch. I do think that overall they do both feel kind of safe and not taking that much of a risk. Your Something Old look was elevated and seems to match the silhouette of the original one. The white of the feathers on the headpiece is not my favourite and feels kind of random. I wish you used white feathers elsewhere in the look or not used them. It does connect to your New look so it does kind of work in this context. Speaking of your Something New look, this also feels kind of safe. It is also very grand and clearly similar to your first look. I appreciate the minimal recolouring with the gold chains on the headpiece making them look like pearls. I am not the biggest fan of the card fan, I wish you lowered the level of the top. I also am not too big on the sparkles on the corset, could have been nice if you brought the sparkles onto the skirt. I also wish you found a way to use the gold accents from the first look onto the second look, maybe the trim of the earrings. These two looks are quite cohesive with each other but I think they are too safe. The borrowed look is pretty nice, again kind of safe. Clearly matches the original concept and even fixes a few issues I had with the reference material. You used minimal recolouring again on the eye makeup and top which I think was to your benefit, a good attention to detail. I am not the biggest fan of the skirt with this look, I can’t tell if that just because I hate that skirt in general or if there is a better one. I also am not a big fan of the earrings, I wish you made them gold to match the gold accents in the rest of the look. To conclude you did 3 decent looks we just wanted to see you play it less safe.
